Microsoft have announced the HDMI-enabled Xbox 360 Elite will be available in Australian stores by the end of August.

The Xbox 360 Elite that Microsoft announced back in March and shipped to US gamers in April has finally been dated and priced for gamers down under. The black Xbox 360 will go on sale in Australia on August 30 for A$729.95 (US$574.34).
The new Xbox 360 Elite bundle includes the Black HDMI-enabled Xbox 360, HDMI cable, and 120GB hard drive. Other accessories included are an Ethernet cable, one month free Xbox Live Gold subscription, a black wireless controller, and an Xbox Live headset. Additional black controllers and rechargeable battery packs are also available for gamers who want their accessories to match their console; however, there has been no word on a matching black HD-DVD drive.
The 120GB hard drive will continue to be available for existing customers for A$229.95.
The announcement comes less than a day after Microsoft announced the special-edition Halo 3 Xbox 360 Pro console and a few days after they lowered the price of the Xbox 360 Core and Pro systems in Australia. The Core systems are available for A$399.95, while Pro consoles retail for A$579.95. The special-edition Xbox 360 goes on sale on September 20 and will be available for A$679.95.

Pink is quite possibly the worst. DS accessories cost about 50% more in pink. All of them. Cases, stylus, everything.

I worked in a factory once making the casings for electric wheel chairs, hydrophones, spatulas and other plastic things.
Interestingly black is a very hard color to make. The mold almost always makes the plastic come out slightly grey. An extremely common trick to avoid this is once the plastic has left the mold you quickly rub black shoe polish on the plastic so it seals into the still slightly tacky surface.
So to an extent this is true.

I have not seen anywhere taking pre-orders in the blue nowhere of the interwebs. I haven't been in a B&M games store for ages, and last time was for an interview
My local store has a poster up with pictures and spec of the Halo console/controllers with release date and UK prices.
Forget the details, but they're certainly taking "register of interest," if not actual preorders.

and back to the topic in hand, aren't we paying about $660 for the Elite? That's worse than Aus.

Cheapest you can get a Premium for is £259.99 (albeit with games (and you could get them for £200 with 1 game at Toys R Us, but they sold out instantly))
Cheapest you can get an Elite for is £289 on it's own.
I imagine an official price drop on the Premium (and probably core) is on the way though. A £30 increase in price is worth it for Elite imo.
So that would be about $573. The aussie's aren't getting raped in price, its just what happens everywhere but the US.
yeah, i'd be kinda tempted, paid £330 for my Premium with a few nice trimmings, but i guess i'd only get about £200 for the console and a couple of games if i tried to sell it.

If this is a price drop before launch I see two possibilties -
1. Pre-orders have been way bellow expected
2. MS are dropping the price of all consoles, rrp of premium stands at £274.99, and they really need more than a £25 gap for 100gb, HDMI and teh sexy black colour.

Well, Microsoft has (one way or another) taken care of the red rings of death and HDTV penetration in England is low, so it's no shocker the Elite is (probably) pre-ordering like crap there.
Like I said, the Elite sales in the U.S. were a one-time deal. Now that the boxes are fixed and HDMI is on all models now, sales of the model are going to plummet.
The odd thing is that on Woot, pink and purple crap gets a huge discount over the regular colors.
Problem is, that would make the Elite as expensive as the PS3, at least here in Singapore.
Therefore, I don't see the Elite doing very well here. Natural progression of stupid marketing.
It actually makes the PS3 looks slightly affordable when you consider the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player.
If you haven't got a 360 yet, wait for the HDMI'd Pros (anyone got a date on an AU release for those?). Its pretty weird how they released this Elite version, then undermined it before it was even released outside of the US.

Depends how many people want 120GB instead of 20GB
I'd wager not too many, since 20GB is fine for game saves and a good blob of Live games. I don't think the general public gets excited over larger hard drive numbers in game systems the way they do in mp3 players, since it doesn't have as big an effect on the experience.
