I have noticed that the music can dramatically alter the experience of video games or movies. Usually the soundtrack is the choice of the director or game designer, but some people prefer to choose their own music. Current technology is making this much easier than it was in the past. The XBox supports custom soundtracks and some DVDs allow you to turn off the original soundtrack so you can mix in your own music. Youtube enables mixers to easily publish their creations.
So I would like to dedicate this thread to those who like to experiment with custom soundtracks in their media. I'll start by posting a few of the combinations that I thought added something to the experience.
Maybe this is not quite what you're talking about, but I've always been a huge fan of retro soundtracks remixed and redone... check out remix.kwed.org for some inspired C-64 remixes.
Anything that has U.N.K.L.E. taken out of it = fail
Why not find something that would benefit from some U.N.K.L.E, put it in, and post the results? Or discuss which games that would be more entertaining with songs from that artist. That would be keeping with the spirit of the thread, and I think it would add something substantial to the topic.
I like this thread already. Bravo to cooler heads.
Anyway, back on topic, I like remixes quite a bit, but they sometimes bring across the notion of a 'cut and paste' feeling, and they just sound bad sometimes. Hopefully this thread would change my opinions on what a good remix is.
