The words I never thought I'd say.
I'm looking for a few good browser based games.
As an auto racing fan I've been playing
BATracer for quite some time now, and it's brought me to the realization that maybe there's something to be said for browser & text based gaming that I've been missing all these years.
I'll wait, while you finish laughing at the n00b.
Still waiting.
Okay.
Now, that being said...I guess I'm looking for more. I'm not really talking about flash/shockwave based casual & puzzle games. I've long been exposed to those, and I understand and appreciate the role they play in the daily lives of everyone from the "bored at work" crowd to the "hardcore Pogo.com addict" like my mother-in-law.
No, I'm looking for something with just a little more depth.
In playing BATracer, you get some of that because each game session lasts 30+ days, depending on the chosen series. And, being based on various forms of motorsport, points are tallied and season championships are awarded at the end...a nice, shiny little "P1" to add to your resume (still haven't gotten one of those yet).
So what else is out there? I'm looking for RPG's, sports management sims, war strategy...anything you can think of that has some depth to it and isn't just a quick 5 minute flash game.

And Nexus War is also pretty good, although I got tired of it after a few months. It's a complex PvP game with character classes that are based on the three different alignments, which are determined by your actions within the world. Also, there's a penny arcade clan that, as far as I know, is still somewhat active. Look up the Knights of Arcadia.
OGame I don't know anything about this other than that I bookmarked it some time ago and thought it looked cool.
You might also want to checkout Spiel By Web if you're into modern boardgames (Wallenstien is good with some friends).
Oh, actually, there was another one. Tradewind Cove. Some guy from these forums developed it.
It's a PvP game that kind of plays out like a RTS-y M:tG.
Travian - More realtimeish. Think constantly running RTS against a couple thousand other people. Multiple villages, armies with troops in the thousands, etc. I finally just tore myself away from this one.
Lunar Wars - think cybernations, but on the moon, with a more interesting war system, but rougher politics (since it's newer). Kinda to be considered in "beta" mode still since there's some balancing issues being worked on.
Trukz - you're a trucker. You haul goods. Make money. It's quite silly in the sense of what you're donig, but also takes like...less than 5 minutes a day, so it's not hard to keep going.
But yeah. All of the above are free, at least.
Yeah, it's not really what you're looking for, but it's valuable if you want to play the first text adventure game.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy text adventure, fully illustrated!
The BBC did this to promote their recent HHGTTG radio show continuation, and the art is done by their artists as well as user-submitted pieces. You might enjoy it a bit more than a bare text adventure, although keep in mind that the game itself is sadistic, as Douglas Adams had a wonderfully twisty mind.
Earth 2025 is more in-depth, but still something you can just log into every day and play for just a little bit.
It's more fun than I make it sound, I promise.
EDIT: Also, I'm sure you could find a better site to play it on. That one is awful.
Is there a reason why it's the size of a postage stamp?
Please, think of the children.
It needs to be made a XBLA game NOW.
Er...no, because it's usually pretty large. Just Google 'De-Animator game' or somesuch. This is the first relevant thing that came up and I didn't really take a hard look at it.
So much complaining....So much complaining!
Urban Dead has been plagued by the whiniest community since it was first created. Could've been a good game, but the playerbase is pretty poor.
Ugh, yes. I remember being dumb enough to actually register for the boards and arguing with some of those retards for a while. Lesson learned.
To not join the forums and metagame?
I still play UD everyday. I was surprised that I've been playing almost two years now. Longest game I've ever stuck with. Tradwind Cove mentioned above gets a nod from me too. Along with Shartak. Aside from the name conjuring up nasty images it's pretty good. It's interface and basic mechanics were inspired by Urban Dead with a tribal theme. I tend to be a loner so it's fun to just explore the land.
I have also played Tactics Arena - it's like an isometric turn-based strategy game (think Final Fantasy Tactics mixed with Chess - one piece moved per turn). It is nifty, but I got bored as I beat almost everyone I played once I got the hang of it.
What was the name of that space / planets game that PA was into a while back?
Man, there was this one way back called Astronest that fucking rocked the house for a browser sci-fi game. It got bought out by Koreans and then I had to play it through like Google Translator. Now its gone completely...
Was that Mall Gibbons? Or Giddings? It started with a 'G' I remember that.
Anyways, I remember someone sending me a text message to me in the middle of math class stating that Gibbons was under attack. I "went to the washroom" and walked into our schools library. Signed in on a PC, used my AP to kick some ass, logged out.
I have never felt like I was helping so many people so much.
Not even UNICEF can make you feel that warm inside,, Zombie killing at it's best.
