Street Trace looks like Crackdown from a graphical point of view, what with the cel-shading and all.

    Not bad, I must say.

Street Trace sounds interesting. Space Giraffe on the other hand, despite his past games, looked like a cloudy mess in the preview videos they've shown of it. Definitely one I'll have to try the demo for before I put the money down on it.

I looked at screenshots of Space Giraffe. I even read the wikipedia entry about the gameplay.

I have no fucking clue what in the world is going on.

Is my brain broken, or does the game look like a winamp visualizer with a score?

It is a spiritual successor to tempest. When you have done as many drugs as Jeff Minter, Space Giraffe is a perfectly reasonable name. I know this because I thought it was reasonable.

It's from a guy who named his company Llama soft. So take that into consideration.

But the story I've heard is that when the first screenshots for the game were released, fans commented that the ship looked like a giraffe, which Minter found hilarious. So he ended up calling it Space Giraffe.

From what I got to play of space giraffe I can't see what's fun or interesting about it. Even after doing the tutorials I still couldn't see very well what was going on exactly. (It's not that I'm blind, I can play geometry wars just fine.)

Wasn't Space Giraffe delayed because the creator hid furry porn in the game or something? I remember specifically something along those lines for some trippy shooter game that a guy created with XNA and was trying to get onto Live Arcade.

There never was any porn in it. Sorry, guys. :)

The vulgar language were just placeholder entries for the amusement of Jeff and us on the forums. They have since been updated and replaced with proper entries. I personally think "Space Giraffe" is a brilliant name. It originally appeared on the forums and everyone liked it, so Jeff went with it.

Jeff is a god and a legend when it comes to trippy intense shooters. If you have even the slightest interest in the genre, then SG is an obligatory purchase. At 400 points, it would be rude not to. And if you have doubts, then check out the demo and decide for yourself.

Downloaded the full version of Space Giraffe. Played it for about 30 minutes. I think I'm going to love this game. Incredible graphics even on my 15" TV (I can only imagine what this looks like on a nice HDTV). I don't get where all the confusion is coming from: as long as you read the instructions and play the demo a few times, the game seems pretty straightforward.

    Gameplay in short:

Keep your charge meter up! In order to raise your meter, shoot stuff or use jump powerups.

While your charge meter is up, you can safely run over enemies on the edge of the map to kill them. This raises your multiplier.

You can shoot diagonally while your charge meter is up.

You also have smart bombs for emergencies.

Yeah seriously, I found the basic game mechanics pretty fun and straightforward. And man it looks damned insane on my 32" HD set. Cranking the sound on the 5.1, the whole crazy experience actually made me laugh. Very good fun, and the high score potential is obvious right from the off. I'm going to sink some time into this beaut.

The only thing I'm kinda confused about is the bullet juggling. Not quite nailed that yet. And I need to remember to use the smart bomb.

    Bulling is awesome.

I just bought the game, and even though I only had 20 minuets to play it, I did find it really fun. There's a lot of humor in here, and some cool, frantic gameplay.

I'm a bit confused about the charge meter, though. Is that the same thing as the power-zone, or whatever? The area of play that's between you and the advancing white line?

My only complaint is that in the later levels, it does become genuinely confusing - Not in a "what's going on?!" sense, but more in an "I can't see anything" sense. Up over level 10, when I was trying to knock down some of those flowers, between the glowing flowers, the swarms of enemies, and the bright, huge, flashing score numbers floating over the field of play I couldn't see any incoming bullets. I just died without knowing why multiple times. Those score counters are the worst. I always think they're bullets.

Oh, and I desperately want the soundtrack now. I don't know why, but I like it a lot.
