HDTV (CRT) problem

So I have a 26" Toshiba cathode ray (fat boy) HDTV, and considering the price it looks awesome.

But I just got Bioshock, and I'm really irritated by a brightness issue.

When the screen is black (i.e. turned on but just a blank screen, like before the credits would roll or during a frame transition or loading screen or whatnot), the top of the screen is brighter than the rest of the TV. The lower 8/10ths of the screen is a nice dark black, but there is this constant patch of brightness all the way across the top. As far as I know, the TV has always been like this. I've never been especially bothered by it until now, but since Bioshock really works by immersing you in the game world, problems with your TV really fuck that up.

Anyway, so there's weird brightness across the top of the screen, but only really noticeable when the image is black. If I adjust the brightness the screen will brighten or darken accordingly, but that part across the top will still remain too bright relative to the rest of the screen.

So what should I do? I appreciate the help, and I hope everyone here has a chance to experience Bioshock technical-difficulty-free.

    Initial hypotheses:

    1) Signal interference on the input cable.
    2) Magnetic interference on the screen.
    3) Defective unit.

What portion of the screen is affected (percentage). Is it entirely horizontal? Do you ever notice a wavering or rolling? What objects are around the television, where is it placed relative to those objects? How are things connected to the television? When was the first time you noticed the problem?

#2 is very possible, esp. if you have a nice large speaker sitting on top of your TV.

I have a center channel sitting on top of my fat boy HDTV and it doesn't distort the picture. The left and right speakers, however, do distort it if they're too close. If it were distortion you'd see a weird rainbowy splotch, not a uniform strip of brightness. I'm guessing it's your cable if it only looks weird on your 360. If it always looks like that, it's probably time to give Toshiba a call.
