I've got 450k isk or so, and a Condor (yay, free ship). Would it be worth it to buy a Merlin now? Or should I just keep training up, and then when I get out to 0.0 buy a Cruiser? My Condor is flying fine now, haven't even had my shields near the halfway point, but I'm just wondering. Thanks.
I'm personally on a quest to dump my Rifter frigate and move up to cruisers, but I'm not sure which one. What would you guys recommend? I have 5mil ISK and ('not sure if this matters) my character is Minmatar. I'm looking for a fighter-ship but hopefully nothing too bulky and slow.
Uhm... hrm, I was giving some thought to looking into joining Merch Industrial myself, but I'm not exactly sure my forum account qualifies as active. Most of my posts have just been questions on various forums and I haven't been here terribly long. >_>;
Ah, okay. In that case, what would be a prime cruiser from any race to set my sights on? The Stabber seems nice for its speed and decent firepower, but what do other races have to offer?
Edit:
Good point. I'm not exactly sure yet what I want to do in the long-run. I was thinking mayhaps a fast, fighter-style ship. Maybe some Covert Ops? But I don't know too much about the later stages of the game.
What's the deal with sentry drones? I finally trained them, finished shooting a pos with them, hit scoop to drone bay ,came back a minute later and warped out and then realized that they hadn't returned. Do I need to manually scoop them?
Were you lagging or anything? Personally I just tell them to return to bay but I don't have very many. Apparently there are complications when you have lots of drones.
Oh also if you lost em in a mission you can warp back and pick em back up if you haven't turned the mission in yet.
Alright, my Caldari Frigate 4 is almost done training (yay), and will finish tomorrow morning. Which means, by tomorrow evening I may be flying my cruiser, yay! Which also means I'm going to be putting in my application for MerchI.
Ingame name is Xaiberd. Won't be able to get over to Mista until tomorrow, but I do look forward to hanging out and blasting away BoB and rats with you guys.

There were only about 250 in local, so lag wasn't too bad. And no, I wasn't doing a mission- I went back to the POS to grab them but the fleet had moved out and there were still 30 hostiles in local including an inty 35km from me so I said fuck it.
Do I have to plan out everything I want to do in advance? I mean... will I be basically screwed if I later on decide I wanna do something else? It all seems kinda complex as far as figuring out everything before I even play the game goes...
Still not sure if I'd be let into Merch or not...
... for that matter, I still need to make the switch from CoX to EVE. o_O
EDIT: Part of why I'm worried is that this doesn't seem like the most newbie/solo friendly game in the world, unless I'm wrong about that. >_>; Seems awfully hard to get up on your feet alone though, plus one of my main reasons for joining EVE is because of the whole Coalition vs Alliance war.

They move away from you to your target at 1m/s, and they hardly ever are in range when you pop them anyway.

did you move during the siege? Did you drop them as you were warping in?
Sentry drones have a max velocity of 1 m/s. So if you were as far away as 100m from your scoop, they would not have gotten back to your ship in time.

In higher security space completing agent quests, the game is solo-friendly.
There are questlines which provide you with basic equipment and ships for each race.
It's pretty noob friendly to begin with, you just have to be ready for the rug to get pulled out from under you every once in awhile.
For example, my red letter day today: ratting in KZF and still trying to work out the kinks in my ratting setup with an armageddon packing artillery. Local was clean when I started, got too involved with what I was doing and suddenly a heretic warps in, drops a bubble, and a flycatcher and hurricane show up to help out. Unfortunately the battleship rats were still alive. I panic and don't think to start killing the most expensive ship there and end up dead, podded, and out 40 million in low grade slave implants and a battleship. Then, amidst it all, end up looking like a total dumbass in the goon sec. channel.
Long story short, be prepared for shit like that to happen if you get stupid.
So, when do people start 'graduating' from the solo quest lines to real PVP?
Also, I was curious about pirate hunting. Sure, some quests just toss wave after wave of pirates to be impaled on my rocket launchers, but as far as non-quest related (NPC) pirates, is there a supply of them somewhere? My ridiculously long fantasy MMO habits make me want to grind mobs

Find a system with lots of asteroid belts, search the belts until you find pirates, shoot, repeat.
So I did a bit of research and it turns out Minmatar do indeed have some decent Covert Ops and overall quick ships; I think I'll stick with them for the time being. But geez, 14-days to train to my next frigate skill.
If thats Frig 5, I wouldnt worry about it, its too much time for the reward, usually its better to train other skills up to 3 or 4 to get a better bonus than training one skill to 5 in the same amount of time.
Edit: On another note:
I will come out and say it, I am an incredibly tight-fisted space jew. And I am wanting to clear out some hanger space... should I bother hanging onto the:
Ship scanners, ECCM, ECM, Target Painters, Turret Disrupters?
I mean, how much would you use a ship scanner if the exploration rewards are still crap? also, is ECCM ever a viable module to fit? What about the ECM or TP/TD? I understand what the module functions are and how they are used, I"m just not sure if there are situations where one of those would be better to fit than another turret/launcher/webber/warp scrambler etc..

I'm on this questline 'cash flow for capsuleers' mission 9-it involves battling a battleship with a webifier station in a frigate.
I'm in a burst with a howitzer sniping from 20km. :P
I'm attempting to acquire 3 mil in order to purchase skills, a thrasher, and equipment.
900k for small artillery specialization.
PS: how can you actualy see drive trought that
I'm intending on amassing 2.5 mil
-Would- I qualify as active?
edit: And by the time you buy either you'll probably be broke after fitting.
Stick with frigates until you can afford to lose cruisers or you can get someone to bankroll you for awhile.

As soon as they train Propulsion Jamming, which takes about 15 minutes after character creation.
Find a system with lots of asteroid belts, search the belts until you find pirates, shoot, repeat.

MWO: Adamski
Will high speed maneuvering provide access to mwds?
In that case, are mwds fittable on destroyers or frigates?
Yes and yes.
'Hope to see you all out there! ;-)
A friend donated me 5 mil, with which I acquired a thrasher and tier 1 equipment.
If anybody could direct me to where tier 2 small artillery can be purchased, I would be obliged.
77s is a guess, outrageous price is certain
BLAST, my ship just got blowed up. It makes me very very angry... Now I hope I have enough money to buy another one... Damn pirates...
ps. I applied to the Corps, ingame name Xaiberd.
Is voice chat needed? I lack a microphone of any kind, which makes it a little bit difficult for me to use voice chat.
EDIT: Corrected proof that I miss SWG way too much.
