The Gobbo Shaman was a lot of fun. I'd say a more offensive WoW Druid is closer. The Shaman was, by far, the "softest" class I played at PAX (of Black Orc, Shaman, Squig Herder, Magus, and Zealot), though soft in WAR still means you can take a number of hits before dying. Unlike a WoW Shaman, it had no real melee capability, but had plenty of "attack+effect" abilities that chained together (think WoW Rogue; everything in WAR is like this).
I don't remember the specific names, but it had a number of abilities that chained together for extra effects. The sum effect was a class that was somewhat varied like a WoW Shaman, but the role was more like a Priest or Druid, offering ranged damage/support rather than being stuck in close in an all damage or damage/support role. I played a Shaman in WoW to 60 something, and the gobbo didn't really feel like it. In WoW, I'd pick and chose a role in battle, but often wouldn't switch on the fly (due to low mana). The gobbo Shaman, on the other hand, was more of a true hybrid, being most effective when I was picking off enemies, interspersed with combat flow disruption, EEEEEK! (best spell in an MMO, ever), and healing.
For those in the guild, I made a series of poll threads so we can gauge who might play what. I couldn't make a single thread with all 12 destruction classes, so pick just one between all three if you vote.
Have they said anything recently about how gear is going to work in this game? Namely, is there going to be a big focus on improving your character through gear past the level cap? Mostly I'm curious if there will be huge gear imbalances in PvP like there are in WoW. I always thought that was retarded because not only does it create artificial advantages between players, but it discourages the playing of alts by requiring huge time investments on each character to compete.

I am like 80% sure they said in a newsletter or an interview that it is not a gear based game. I could have heard this in a dream but I am pretty sure its real

It will have gear, but it's way too early to tell if it will have WoW's "gear gap".
they said the focus isnt the gear, but instead the tactics and skills and shit. gear will help, but its not the be all it is in wow. said this in one of the interviews, maybe someone can find it?
also as far as quest rewards go, the gear you can choose will always be tailored towards whatever class you're currently playing.
Yes, even your drop pool might be modified to cater to your needs, Paul Barnett is pretty vicious on bullshit in games, and he pointed out that it's moronic to be collecting trash you don't need or would only sell.

I'm almost positive it was talked about in one of their Podcasts. I think the one where they answer all sorts of random questions.
And I'm pretty sure they said that gear would give a player a slight advantage of course, but it wasn't the deciding factor in combat and that true skill would decide the victor.
Axen on
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
actually, can Wren update the OP with the final classes as well as the links to their flavor pages please
Alot of the info is on the WarhammerOnline.com or WarhammerAlliance.com but not all of it is properly indexed and linked, so sometimes its a bit of a paint to find the proper page link.
I'm looking around at different MMOs and this one's peaked my interest.
I'm just going over it on wiki right now but what are there by way of support classes? As in healing, buffing/debuffing, crowd control, etc. I'm honestly not that interested in doing massive damage as I am in ensuring others can do it better.
Welp your not in luck. The whole design of WAR classes is that to fully do your job you need to be in the thick of it, not snoozing in the back tapping the heal key over and over.
There are still support classes, but much more "offensive" support; adding damage, damage + effects, situational group or chain/combo buffs. When you support in WAR, you need to be fairly dynamic and active... or so it's felt like in my 4-5 hours of demo playtime.
I think the closest they have to pure support would be the Dwarven Runemaster, every other support class needs to mix in debuffs, nukes, or melee abilities to heal at top effectiveness.
Here's a list of the classes and their general purpose, though each class will be able to specialize in their 3 trees, as well as having tactics that further specialize or focus them. Tactics can be swapped around on the fly.
Empire Classes:
Warrior Priest: Melee + Support Class
Witch Hunter: Melee DPS
Bright Wizard: Magical DPS
Knight of the Blazing Sun: Tank + Tactical Abilities
Dwarven Classes:
Rune Priest: Magical Support Class
Hammerer: Melee DPS
Iron Breaker: Tank + DPS
Engineer: Range DPS + traps/bombs
High Elven Classes:
White Lion: Melee DPS + Pet class
Shadow Warrior: Ranged DPS + Melee DPS (does not have any stealth / sneak / hide abilities)
Archmage: Magical DPS + Support
Swordmaster: Tank + DPS

Also, minimal to no Crowd Control.
Actually, Rune Priest and Archmage look just fine. And support does not mean sitting in the back tapping heal unless the game puts together a terrible support class.

Lol, Paladins...
Anywho, yeah, this game needs to come out so I can break my WoW addiction.
That and Disciples look kick ass too. Of course there's my original love of the Orc Choppa... fuck I'm going to be playing this game for weeks before throw a character into a guild that I can play 'til the level cap without going all ADD.
For those who wanted more PAX class write-ups, check this thread.

Magus sounds fun, and I like the look of the Witch Hunter on the main site. Doubt I'll get into beta, but I'd to give this a go if AoC doesn't tickle my fancy.
I highly doubt that I will play the game because it's looking more like EA online round 3 then something else
If I do did to play it I might play a Black Orc, Dark Elf Sorceress or a Chaos Magus.

However, given the information that is readily available on the official site, warhammer alliance and other WAR related sites, the answer is yes.

I'll try to dredge up and post impressions again later. Everything's probably different now anyway.
