Apologies in advance if this isn't the most appropriate place to request this.
For an art project I'm working on, I need a decent screenshot of som ne-esque fire or flames... I want it to appear rather pixelated - like if you played an nes game on a large tv...
I've had no luck in finding anything so far - the closest I've come is Bowser's fireballs from SMB... but the only screen shot was really small, and when I zoomed in on photoshop it was blurry and not pixelated.
I figured you guys might be able to point me in the right direction...
So yeah - nes looking fire / fireball anyone??? Doesn't have to be nes... just retro graphic style
They would have tons of cheezy fire effects like that.
Edit: This one for example.
Edit2: I assume you have Photochop or equivalent. You could just download some random fire filter and pixelize it.
Edit3: Also, due to the procedural nature of most fire effects you wont actually get to see much pixellization. Finding one that fits that bill might be not so easy. A different (non procedural technique) to make fire is painting a picture of fire using a palettized gradient and then rotating the palette. This causes a nice retro animation effect that will probably fit the bill. I assume most GIF animation programs have filters to rotate the palette since GIF is a palettized format.
Well problem with pixelizing is that it might make the fire look pixellized, but that its not really authentically retro. (well it can be, but hey)
There are simply 2 ways instantly recognizable retro fire is made and that is a) procedural or b) rotating a palette. I suggest you look into the second technique since its really easy and looks cool.

Don't use photoshop to enlarge the image. Use MS Paint or something.
Here you go. Just pixelated some random fireball image I found.

They might - but its going to be used for a fire breathing snake -
here is the one I made with the bowser fire
as you can see its too blurry - I got it to the right size I just want it pixelated....

It's funny how MS Paint enlarges old-school graphics better than Photoshop.

All you have to do is select "nearest neighbor" (instead of "bi-something") when you're enlarging stuff and it will do the same as MS Paint.
The more you know ;-)
