I visit YouTube all the time on ny Wii, and yesterday it was working fine. However, I just now tried to watch some videos, and now I'm getting an error on the page that says I don't have Javascript enabled or I don't have the newest version of Flash. Anyone else have this problem?
They recently added an advertising system to the videos that overlays an ad over the first 10 seconds of the vid, a script that the Wii's Opera isn't able to use yet.

They did? I just checked, and I'm not seeing any such ads.

Here's how it works: Sponsors and video publishers apply to participate at youtube.com/advertiser. Ad sponsors design a campaign that will appear on certain YouTube clips. The ads appear not as traditional 30-second "pre-rolls" but as "overlays" — which look a lot like the little messages that run at the bottom of TV screens.
Fifteen seconds into a video, viewers are invited to click on the ad. If they choose to do so, the clip is paused and the ad is shown in the video window
Ok, that's not as bad as I expected. I'll grudgingly put up with it.
Also, I wonder how they decide which "certain" videos the ads will be displayed on. They'll probably match the advertisement to the video, and you'll probably have a higher chance of seeing the ads on the more popular videos.

Hmm.
No clue, but I heard that people who join in on the ad program can get paid for ads showing up on their videos if it hits a certain number of views.
And yeah, as you would expect of Google, it's totally reasonable, so don't worry, they're not shoving a 30 second commercial in your face before you watch your 15 second clip of a cat playing a piano.
Also, it's only on so called "partner" videos, where youtube has licensed content, or otherwise partnered with other companies -- music videos are a great example. The ads won't show up on regular user videos.
FYI, this sounds to me like more of a problem with the coding of the new comment system, which is javascript based, than the videos themselves. The newest version of Flash doesn't add any new features that youtube uses/requires that the Wii version doesn't support.
Interactive Advertisement is a marketing whores wet dream. It, like everything cool in the future takes time to grow and these are just the baby steps to that tomorrow. Some satellite T.V. providers have already started this method of advertising.
One day soon, you will be watching T.V. or on your computer watching...something. You will have the option to select major brands of the items you see in the display and bring up 3D imagery and information on the product, with the option to shop for it right where you sit, customizing your order in various ways. Not to mention downloading games, demos, trailers, blah, blah, blah.
I look forward to this future. I will spend lots of teh moniez. Now, if you will excuse me, my flying car just arrived in the TelePod and I have to fly away to Mars to pick up space hookers.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the youtube player was updated recently too. Did you guys notice you can skip ahead beyond your buffer in videos now? A much freaking needed update.

Thanks for the heads up. Locking thread. EDIT: Heh, guess not, wrong forums.

Also, fuck them if they ever do that.
Hmm. My mistake. Looks like it's still in planning. Here's the deal though
