So from what you guys have said, I'm guessing that we should really, really hope for a Folklore 2 in which they do everything right instead of just 80% of things.
Of course, I really, really can't wait to get this game. The demo was so awesome-tastic it almost made me wet my pants.
Lord Shplane on
Awww... My evil anime mask guy picture doesn't work. ;_;
Yeah don't get me wrong Shplane, Folklore does alot of things right. The amount of different attacks and defences you'll accumulate within the first few hours is pretty disorientating to begin with, but eventually you'll make a mental short-list of your favourites and mix it up only when you need to or something superior comes along.
Just make sure you're willing to pay attention to the story because so far in my run through its the strongest aspect
So in the end, what did you guys end up thinking of this game? I was thinking of picking it up after work tonight, but I wanted some opinions. Primarily, did going through the same levels for both characters get a bit old, or ever feel like artificial playtime lengthening? More of a rental than a purchase? What was your final playtime?
I can't answer any of your questions, but I wanna talk about the game anyway.
I only just picked it up and I've been busy plowing through Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank, but I have managed to put a few hours in. Aside from how much I love the mythological spirit thing and the setting, I have to say that Keats' voice actor is really, really good. I don't think the story localization is top-notch, but his attitude and presentation fits the character perfectly. Looking at the actor's (Richard Coyle) credits, I don't recognize him from anything, but his voice sounds really familiar.

It does a lot of things well, but doesn't really exceed in any one place. My biggest frustrations are Ellen's fighting style, and the fact that when you're trying to capture a folk that requires more than the usual upturn of the controller and some gnit little folk comes along and swipes you and ruins the capture.
It didn't really feel like artificial lengthening of the story. I really enjoyed the alternate sides to the admittedly thin story. In retrospect I wouldn't pay full price for it but if you can snag it on sale somewhere then by all means. My final playtime will clear 40 hours with all the downloadable content added in there as well.
Right now I'm playing first with Keats and then with Ellen. I'm on Warcadia right now and god damn beating that artillery gun folk with Ellen is damn near impossible. I'm not sure if its because she's weaker or just because I used Keats special ability (I forgot what it was called, whatver L3+R3 is) to rip through that fucker. That is frustrating me right now.
Is it just me though or do these chapters seem short?
Sorry to rain on your parade but you've gotta play the other characters storyline at some stage. I haven't gotten to that stage myself, but I've read about it in several reviews.
The chapters are short, its not just you. But hey, Mario Galaxy has renewed my love for short stages so it doesn't bother me at all
Mass Effect and Uncharted took me away from this game awhile ago, but the story in Folklore was to interesting to leave alone for long. I'll be beating it soon
Folklore appears to be on sale this week at Best Buy: $39.99 according to the best buy ad. I held off for a while, but this is cheap enough for me to take the bait.

I'd do it. I'm on the end boss, just finished getting every folk and getting each folk maxed.
Load times are kinda blah, but if your a smoker like me (420) then its not so bad (makes time to reload/etc) ;-)
To anybody who has played it: How's the DLC? I saw there were 3 bundles up on the PS Store, and I'm curious as to their quality (considering the price... $6.99 per bundle I believe).

They're from like $3.99 to $5.99 - looked overpriced to me considering what they advertised. Plus they added up to more than what I paid for the game....skipped for now until I decide I love this game.

I am currently playing Bishock however

He really, really, does.
How interesting are the sidequests, typically (I've only played the demo so far)?

That looks suspiciously like Neil Gaiman.
