The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Tickets for the Opera Tristan were sold out almost immediately but I hope I can still get some for either the Berlioz/Prokofiev thing or for Mahler's 7th. Valery Gergiev is a god among men.
It's going to suck this year, it's basically Static-X, Lamb of God, Ozzy, and then a bunch of bands nobody has ever heard of/cares about but I'm still going because the tickets are free.
Then don't bother going? You get see Ozzy and Zakk Wylde, and if you're any kind of metal fan at all, that alone is worth the trip. Ozzy is metal history, and Zakk Wylde doesn't get a lot of credit but he's an absolute badass on the guitar. Lamb of God puts on a great show, even if some of their stuff is a bit recycled, they still kick ass.
Lastly, and maybe most importantly, getting to see some of those bands that "nobody has ever heard of/cares about" is the best part of festival gigs like Ozzfest - it's prime opportunity to see some up-and-coming bands that absolutely tear shit up because they play like it's their last show, the one big shot at making a presence and getting noticed.
I've seen bands like Killswitch Engage, Mastadon, and DevilDriver, and prior to Ozzfest I'd never heard of them, and they all absolutely killed it, and I've been a big fan ever since.

Yes, I did name those specific bands because those are the good ones that are going.
I did a little looking up of some of the other bands there, and aside from like 3 inches of blood and devildriver i can't say i cared to much for them. "nobody has heard of/cares about" is a nice little blanket statement, because it's mostly true, out of about a dozen bands I can only say I care about 3 of them, and since mine is the only opinion of the two of us who i actually care about. . .
My favorite Ozzfest memory is watching Crazy Town get booed off of the stage before they even finished a song. Coming in at a close second was seeing Black Sabbath reunited. It's hard to come out of Ozzfest completely disappointed.
