I'm relaying a friend's problem, so you'll have to excuse me if I'm slow getting you the answers you need to answer his question.
He bought a white DS Lite when the system launched, so the warranty should have ran out like 2 months ago. Whenever he tries to download a program through Download Play, his system will freeze on the Nintendo logo or just give him a white screen. When researching this problem I see lots of similar instances but only in the world of homebrew where people are flashing their firmware, something he hasn't done and really has no plans of doing.
My question is: how exactly could he fix this problem? Why would it crop up all of the sudden (he says it didn't use to do this). To me it sounds like a hardware failure, but I'm not sure where to go from there.
Is he sure it's frozen and just not downloading? Some of the stuff you can download take quite a bit of time. I know stuff like single game multiplayer can take a good 2-3 minutes to download depending on how big it is.

We're fairly confident that this is freezing. We played a 5 player game of "Bust a Move DS" and every system downloaded the game and started up at around the same time with the exception of his DS Lite.
The only time it works is when he's serving up the game, as far as I can tell (but I might have to check on that, I know he successfully hosted a Tetris game at least).
