I feel like I'm one of very few mature people at the end of the Keynote. Granted, you hate the mans movies, but is PAX Xbox LIVE, or a message board? No. I don't expect people to regress into Anonymous mentality. Also, yeah you don't have to stay, but God.
I hate his movies too! I take issue with some of the liberties he took with Postal, but those are the same issues that I've had with South Park before, and in the end the whole product isn't measure by that: it's the presentation. I thought from what we saw of Postal today that it was a step in the right direction, but maturity guys! Let him be the immature one! Like Wil said, let's not be Fuckwads.
Besides that, loved the whole Keynote/PA Q&A. Tycho's vocal chords are things of beauty.
It's probably a good thing Jack Thompson didn't come. He would have been mobbed. I'm surprised Uwe wasn't, actually. And in my opinion, walking out was the most mature way to state your opinion.

hahahahaha - so Wait....so wait? Uwe was there? and everyone just up and left? Like a big Geek Strike . I'm as mature as the next person but to be frank, there's really no other way to show Uwe just how dissapointed we are with his obvious disregard for our hobby. I'd have walked out too - it's better than doing what I would have wanted to do deep down in my heart....which is..."booooooooooooooooooooooooo"

Not everyone walked out, although quite a few did. My friend I stayed through him screening a bit of Postal <insert sounds of nasuea here> and the first question from the Q+A. To the female heckler: you were being a dick. I would not call myself a Uwe Boll supporter, but I was on his side when you started shit up.
Between Wil Wheaton and Gabe & Tycho, I got my money's worth for my 3-day PAX admission right there.
I didn't know what to expect from Wil. I'm a fan of his blog and I read his Games of Our Lives articles about old console games, but I wasn't sure how that kind of stuff was going to translate into an hour speech in front of 3000 video game fans. But it was great. It was funny and nostalgic and inspiring, like much of his writing. And it was all about video games.
Gabe and Tycho were awesome, as expected. When they were onstage, there was just this sense that anything could happen at anytime. They had a big entrance to Rick Ross's Hustlin', with smoke and strobe lights, and the crowd on their feet going crazy. They made a joke about how, if you have the chance, you really should do that yourself. About a half hour later, one of the audience questioners asked them could they hook him up. So they turned the strobe lights and smoke machine on, blasted the music, and had this guy come out from behind the curtains to the cheering crowd. Gabe and Tycho were just like, "Fuck it, this is fun and there is nothing we have to do and nothing we can't do." After that, there was discussion of crazy curse words like "cockthirsty" and "junkslut." A guy at the mike pointed out this woman who was translating the whole thing into sign language, and everyone just cracked up at the very idea.
I'm laughing again as I type this. Frickin' awesome.
I couldn't stomach Uwe Boll, and walked out early on. Jack Thompson is insane and mean, but there is a kernel of an idea that has some merit in his stance. There is nothing about Uwe Boll that has any merit. He is a naked capitalist, who takes the things we love and shits on them to make a buck. It's a solid business plan: buy some cheap name recognition for your low-budget horror film in the form of a video game license. But it spits in the face of the fans of the video games, whose interest the license is ostensibly buying. It doesn't help that his movies are crap, without a trace of something like Evil Dead's sense of originality or humor. Low-budget doesn't have to mean crap, but Boll's oeuvre is made up of by-the-numbers affairs designed to make a quick buck, with plots that don't have anything to do with the source material. And the guy doesn't even pretend anything different. He admits all of that stuff up front. The only time he acknowledges the gaming crowd is for cheap ass publicity, sometimes at the literal physical expense of those fool enough to engage him (like his "boxing" opponents). There was nothing that Mr. Boll could've said that would've done anything but make me mad.

By far the most bizarre part of the Q&A was when some guy who was obviously extremely, extremely high got on the mic and was talking gibberish for a good 5 minutes. Anyone get a video of him?

That guy posts on the forums. I'm not giving his name, but he was on the PAX train.
Also, Wil was a LOT more interesting than I expected. Definitely glad I decided to sit through it for a guaranteed seat for the PA Q&A.

You know, I did walk out on Uwe Boll, but you've got to give the guy props for showing up and coming on stage to a crowd that he knew hated him. That takes balls.
People were being really fucking rude to Uwe Boll; I felt like he handled the insults with class and even though I'm not a fan of his movies, I give him nothing but props for coming out into a crowd that was booing him right from the start. That takes balls of steel. How many of you could do the same?
Balls of steel my ass. Boll will get a lot of publicity out of this for Postal. Tons of gaming sites and tech news sites cover PAX, and all of them will mention Boll and his crappy movies. Standing in front of a bunch of people who yell "you suck!" for an hour is a lot cheaper than spending actual money on advertising. This is the same self-serving self-promotion crap that his "boxing" matches were all about.

ditto. the guy was a scheming douchebag, pure and simple. don't pity him. he should be lynched and hung from the fourth floor of the meydinbauer center and dressed up like the p-a devil. but that's just MHO.

what is freedom anyway if you can't make whatever video you want and show up to whatever con you want as long as nobody is getting hurt by it. these days I applaud anyone going against political correctness whether I think his video is great or dogshit. PC is crippling this great nation and to whoever calls out "offensive!" to the movie, save your breath and just leave. I don't think there were armed guards keeping anyone in the room

People walked out on Uwe? I bet they instantly started talking about how their geek penis grew 1 inch, and how they are going to ask that girl out that works at the video game store.

I'm 90% sure he rode the train with us.
Yes, he did. In fact I'm crashing in his room. He's a cool guy but has genuine psych issues, so don't be mean to him.
But still, it was a great "Oh man this is going on the DVD isn't it" moment.
I think the treatment Uwe Boll got was sad. The hecklers in the crowd made us all look bad. I thought he did a reasonable job explaining why he does what he does and how he's actually trying to make better movies in the future. Seems like there's a big "Uwe Boll Kicked My Favorite Game In The Nuts" complex running rampant around here. Just 'cause you hate his movies doesn't mean you get to ignore Metal Jesus' Commandment.
I had been in the theater since before Wil Wheaton started, so by the time Uwe got there, I was ready to leave anyway. I think the big walk out had as much to do with people being tired of sitting for 2 1-2 hours as it did with people hating Uwe. I missed the girl who went mental. Lots of random calls of "You suck!" (including 1 from me) in the 5 minutes before I left. I could see the heckling getting old quick, though.

I wasn't trying to make a statement or anything, I was just genuinely uninterested in anything he could possibly have to say.
Wil Wheaton was awesome. Not only was his keynote the best speech I've heard in years, but he stuck around to "meet & greet" fans most of the weekend, and after talking to him for a couple minutes I can say without a doubt that he is a great man.
The PA panel was better than average (I've seen many over the years) and since average is "pretty fucking good", that should say it all.
Uwe Boll was a disgrace for himself and for the PAX attendees who couldn't be mature about the whole thing. Yes he made some crappy movies about games we like, but he did bring up a good point... he didn't write them. He just tried to turn bad writing into something watchable. Now "Postal" on the other hand, he did write, and even though the clips they showed at PAX weren't well received, the film has gotten some positive attention and a close friend of mine who saw Uwe as an Anime con last week (who hates him) mentioned that she actually wanted to see "Postal" and that she gained respect for the man. Just because he's failed so many times, doesn't mean he's not trying, and instead of just insulting him, we should be encouraging him to just be better at what he does (and get better writers). He had balls to show up at PAX.

I got the impression that most people weren't hostile towards him, just very confused and/or amused. Do you happen to know, or anyone else for that matter, what he was asking? I didn't catch it all as he spoke rather softly, something about it being within his rights to sue, but he wouldn't. T&G were pretty baffled too, but they handled it well.
