What a shame. There hasn't been a true killer app this whole year. Damn GTA being pushed back.
Unless you were being sarcastic, then I'm pretty sure you're wrong.
Bioshock/Mass Effect/Assassin's Creed/Super Mario Galaxy/Call Of Duty 4 to name but a few
Not really. All of those games, particular Bioshock and Creed have their detractors. I've played Mass Effect and its fun but not perfect, SMG is same ol' same ol'. Not played COD4 but I doubt its any more of a mainstream killer app than Halo is. And Bioshock again, ain't all that once you get past the surface. And no, if it was on the PS3 that wouldn't fix its problems.
i got this game the day it came out. And I must say that it is one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had in a while. The Co-Op/single player is very very intense, the characters have some personality to them. Also the multiplayer is refreshing and very very fun.
Quick question: Once you complete a level, can you go back and replay them...like in Hitman: Blood Money? Because that game has infinite replay value to me because of that one thing.
Looking at the first poster on the OP, how is Kane supposed to use that scope, or even aim accuratley for that matter, with a dead dominant eye? Trivial, I know, but it's the first thing I noticed when I looked at it.

Every game has its detractors. There are even human beings (I'm not sure if they count as "people") who don't like Deus Ex.

Yes, you can. However, it's not like Blood Money in that each mission is seperate from the others and only tied together by story. There are a number of distinct locals and you kind of fight your way through them.
One more thing I wanted to say about this game. The music is fan-fucking-tastic.

How is fucking up a Tokyo Rave?
The things I've been thinking of doing on that level...I should be in jail.

I don't think it's possible to get through that level without killing at least one bystander for every guard you take down. Even with their flashlight robot eye.
I think I may have understated how intense the game can get, even if the gameplay is flawed. But that might have been because I was stoned the first time I played. The prison break level is madness (Sparta really).

I am really happy IO to finally have made a more shooting oriented game. In the Hitman series, you had all those cool guns you get as rewards or pickup from missions etc., but for me I couldn't really use or had to refrain from using the big guns if the best way to enjoy the game was to get Silent Assassin on all levels.
Back to this game though, when's the UK release date and is it FUN? I'm after something to coop with a friend (A mate I don't see much nowadays and best way we find to catch up if by killing things together) and we thoroughly enjoyed both Gears and Crackdown.

Way to comment before actually reading what I wrote though.
And no, I don't like to complain, I was looking forward to AC and K&L and both sound like they're big let downs for the most part (Seriously, why are they attacking me for riding my horse fast?).
I picked up Kane and Lynch, being a fan of both Hitman and Freedom Fighters, and I'm enjoying it so far. I haven't had a chance to play the co-op mode yet, sadly, but single player is enjoyable. It plays more or less exactly like an action oriented Hitman, with slightly more focused levels. Every now and then you'll be able to choose how to approach a situation, but for the most part the levels are linear and push you into massive gunfights.
The gunfights themselves are quite brutal, and the guns have a significant amount of recoil that takes a little while to adjust to. If you just fire aimlessly towards enemies, you won't hit anything. The cover system works similarly to the one in the GRAW games, but it's not quite as responsive, which is a shame. Graphically, this looks a little nicer than Hitman Blood Money, but the realistic art style and focus on number of characters on screen over character detail means this is not the prettiest looking action game.
The story has drawn me in so far (I'm five chapters in). Much like the Hitman games, the story exists mostly to ferret you around the world to a wide variety of crazy locations where bad things can happen. Also, many of the locations feel like love letters to Michael Mann movies. If you like those films, or if you've liked any of IO's previous games, you'll probably love this one. If you hated Hitman or Freedom Fighters, this game definitely isn't for you, as the gameplay hasn't really changed all that much.

one thing I'm kind of pissed about is that the PC version will have split-screen co-op, something that hasnt been in a PC game in like a decade, but theres no online co-op (just online team vs team) wtf

I picked up the PC version, and I have to say I'm liking it quite a bit so far. I'm a big fan of IO's games, so I'm a bit willing to overlook the game's flaws. I must say, the presentation so far is really good. All the "Michael Mann love letter" comments from previews and forums are pretty much right on the money. The club scene was awesome - the sound design really sells the environment there.
One thing I've started noticing with these latest GFW releases is that developers are starting to realize that DirectX can help them talk to more than just the video/sound card. If I start the game with a 360 controller plugged in, it automatically assumes that is how I want to play the game, and automatically changes all the screen prompts to match. If I unplug it, it instantly changes everything to k/b mouse. Gone are the days of games freaking out if you unplug a device, which is a small but nice touch.
I don't have Hamachi installed, but I think it would be great if it indeed does work for co-op.

Just curious but have you run into any glitches/crashing? Lately a lot of PC ports have been really poor. Does it use Live ala Halo2, Shadowrun, and Gears of War? I'm kind of interested but its a toss up. PC vs 360. Bad reviews be damned the videos make it look like a video game version of a crime drama.

It was a slideshow the first time I started it up, but I chalked that up to the fact that it most likely didn't like that I was running Steam, Xfire, AND signing into Live in the game all at once. Once I shut down Steam/Xfire, it ran much, much better. I don't have bleeding edge hardware (7800gs, 2gigs ram, p4 3.2ht), but the game is perfectly acceptable at mostly high settings. And yes, it does use Live, so if you already have an account set up on your PC then it will auto-sign you in when you start it up.
This game is awesome but the one major glitch i've found is on the second level I died and got a BSOD, restarting my computer. Hopefully it won't happen again.
I just finished the Tokyo nightclub and the game is very fun and great looking, but I definently understand why it got a 6.0 from gamespot, though I would give it at least a 7. It's one of the clunkiest games ive played in a long time, it just seems like the cover system and actual player mechanics themselves were lazily put together. It's a far cry from how smooth Hitman Blood Money was. But maybe that's because this was made with consoles in mind, I don't know..

Blood Money was release on the PS2 and also XBOX I believe.
Just finished it. What a short fucking game, took me less than 5 hours. No wonder IOI made the game in less than a year, hopefully they'll step it up with Hitman 5. I mean this was a great game but was mostly just a series of set pieces and cool gun battles, though it had really bad AI and a long string of pretty mediocre missions at the end. Maybe they intent to create a franchise off it, but who knows. Definently a GREAT story above all else. The characters were all extremely good.
so I Finally recieved my copy (fuck you UPS and your goddamned "thanksgiving")
I've only played the first 2 levels but I'm really liking it so far. Only issues have been the AI of both enemies and friendlies leaves a little to be desired at least in terms of taking cover in a prompt manner and reacting to threats. I dont know if its because I'm playing on the easiest level or what.
but it looks pretty damn good with all the settings up
So has anyone here actually played the damn game or are they going by hearsay and controversial review shennanigans and assuming it sucks? I for one am having a lot of fun with it. It's not the most revolutionary game ever but its fun.
I normally get 30-40 fps but towards the end of the Havana level there was so many dead bodies and explosions I was only getting like 10 lol

I mean you really can't claim that none of those games are killer apps. Doesn't make sense, even if they aren't for you.

I'm sorry but for a game boasted a co-operative action game. Not including online co-op on the PC version is fucking bullshit.
It's a cack-handed method sure, but is Hamachi any more laggy than regular over-the-internet co-op?
Kind of cool, but domestic violence groups are going to be all over them for that picture.
