Hrm. The animation is a bit stiff, and it seems a little floaty right now, but looks good. I'm guessing there's a "hold for parkour" button, from how it played out.

This one's gonna be a "panter", that's right I'm coining a new term right now that I hope will be picked up by the rest of you and used for games so good that they just have to go down your pants.

Seriously, though, I've seen a few videos on this and read a section in one of my regularly read gaming magazines and I have to say that it looks pretty damn good. I'm sure I'll pick it up.

I know it's a work in progress. Doesn't mean I can't comment on it.

So the gameplay is looking pretty sweet, but does anybody here know if the entire military is supposed to be evil or just these "Blackwatch" guys? This game is looking to be a must-buy for me either way, but it really gets under my skin when devs take a page from the Hollywood "if it's the US military it doesn't care about anything but the mission unless the movie is about something in WWII and then the military is a bunch of heroes" book.
It annoys me because it breaks immersion (yeah, yeah, I know, you're playing a life-sucking mutant human thing and that's not very realistic, but you get the idea) to have the US military portrayed as a bunch of soulless murder-machines just because the devs are too lazy to think up something better.
That being said, I'm going to eat lots and lots of soldiers. A growing abomination against the laws of nature needs his vitamins, right?
I saw a video on the Blackwatch guys and I have to say that a game where you had to play one of these special soldiers might actually be a hell of a lot more interesting as far as games with morale choices go. They way they talked about it made me feel like there was something definately there, even though most of what the devs talk about will more than likely never show up in the game or never even be mentioned in the slightest, which is a shame.
And, as far as I know, military enemies will be Blackwatch.

So this is Hulk only that you can change your arms into swords and cut soldiers into little bloody pieces.
Or you can just rip a guys head of and assimilate/eat the rest of his body.
I'll take EIGHT.
edit: The Blackwatch guys are the super secret "we do whatever to get the job done and sometimes the job involves killing everyone" guys.
The normal military isn't really "evil" per say, there's just an outbreak/contamination of a virus in New York and they are there to keep the peace.
But if some guy suddenly transforms into a fucking monster and starts slicing up their comrades, I'm sure it's pretty realistic for them to start shooting him with everything they have.
And of course since they will probably have the order to "find and kill the hooded guy" they will chase/attack you once they have identified you.
As you can see in the video, the first soldier raises his hand in a "this is a restricted area" way towards the player before getting sliced up. Why the soldier would do that after the player just landed in front of him after jumping 10m into the air, I have no idea.
The thing about the free running/parkour system is that it's only limited by the setting it's used in. If you have an intricately crafted city that has many different levels and different sizes building, it can be really, really cool.
On the other hand, bullet time is pretty one dimensional no matter what games it's used in.
So really, I'd love it if more games had awesome parkour systems. When appropriate, of course.
Edit - Oh, and this looks awesome.
Edit edit - I was responding to the talk on the first page, by the way.

None of them are evil. They're doing what is necessary to stop the quite capable killing machine and giant monsters from slaughtering all of NYC. Blackwatch just follow the 'needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few' approach.
Like a convict at the crack of the gas chamber door. But my God, this game looks good. If it plays as well as Hulk did, with these graphics, this'll be an amazing title.
I may have to finally cave and pick up a next-gen system.
This is looking pretty sweet. I was expecting the locomotion to just be jumping around like the Hulk, but instead it's all acrobatic and stuff. Coolio.
The thing that interests me most about this game so far was described in Game Informer. The story won't be told to you directly. You basically won't have any information until you start absorbing people. The more key people you absorb, the more story you can piece together, but the way they're describing it, you may complete the game and still not know everything for sure.
Your friend, meanwhile, might play it a different way, and come to a different conclusion based on the memories of the people he's absorbed. You'll have to compare notes to find out what's really going on.
Of course, the gamefaq that comes out a week after release will totally ruin this sense of community and/or exploration.
I hope this game really develops the non-killing side (Well, besides killing the people who you want to look like). Being all sneaky and manipulative sounds much more fun than blade hands to me. And yes, co-op makes it a must buy for me, even if my PC probably can't handle it.
The free running looks very much like I expected. It's the same kind of thing as the run in Hulk:UD. Except instead of going THROUGH everything, you go over it. So it maintains the unstoppable movement feeling of Hulk, but makes the character feel more agile. While when you gain more mass it will pretty much be like Hulk UD.
No, it's just you. Besides, it's far from done so we'll probably see the game optimized a lot mote than it is now.

Yeah, that video was from a 20% complete build. That actually impresses the hell out of me since the game already looks like it'll let you do some incredible things. Yes, there were some glitches and issues, but who cares? You get to free run all over traffic and smash in peoples roofs just by moving.
Good to hear that the general military seems like it'll be performing a pretty normal role (containment) and that the Blackwatch group isn't conventional military. It just means that the bad guys' sweet, sweet biomass will be all the more delightful.
It looks fantastic. And the fact that you apparently have a choice about which route to take is cool. Here's hoping (again) that they don't rush it out and that it isn't buggy.
It's already out this summer, though? Well, they still have half a year. Should be a great summer game.

[€dit] I'm a little worried that they go overboard with the power. The guy was literally tossing trucks to the side as he was running through the street.

Yeah, towards the end of that movie when he gets the armor (complete with bio-armor hoodie, hah) he's pretty much just like Hulk UD - shouldering aside cars and trucks and sending them flying while pelting down the street at high speed. I do find the car-jumping bits at the beginning a bit more appealing, though. I wonder if they'll be any different types of armor that boost that aspect of your character.
Anyone else find these guys completely hilarious? The absurdly melodramatic tones they use in their voices coupled with the ridiculous lighting they film with is a recipe for unintentional humour.
yeah heh i think a couple of them have their tongues in the cheek, but it's hard to tell
honestly i'm a bit unimpressed by the environments, it looks like gta 3
Man, it can look like GTA 1 for all I care as long as the gameplay rocks.
sure, but did you watch that clip? when you're talking almost exclusively about how fantastic your art director is and how immersive and organic the setting itself is, and take time to actually accentuate how 'you're not lying, really, trust me, guys, it looks awesome!', you better deliver more than flat-fronted skyscrapers of eight polygons and seven-year-old cab models.
I have to agree that it doesn't really look very good in that clip, but I'm sure the final game will look better. I just don't really think you should show your game until it looks good enough to show.
Well they did chuck massive "Pre Alpha" stamps on everything, which I read as "No really guys, this shit will look soooo much better when we get to release"
The concept art however is fantastic, so if they can transfer that into the final product it should look and feel pretty spectacular.

When Dyack says this he gets hauled over the coals for being mouthy, but it really should be the case. I'd be fine with not getting to see or hear anything about a game until it's properly ready to show off.
