I have a feeling this will definitely be for the better. The early gameplay vids were decent, but they didn't live up to the promise of what the designers were trying to offer us. Although, I am a HUGE fan of the context-sensitive movement. Push towards a car, you'll automatically slide over the hood to go around, no need to hit the Jump button. Head back towards said car with giant claws a minute later, he'll rip it in two to go through it instead of going over it. Good stuff.
Fine by me, we end up with a more finished game at the end of it. And quite frankly, 2008 was getting pretty crowded with open world games anyway, between GTA4 and Mercs2 I think I'll be pretty set for a long while.

Holy fucking shit. Did anyone else watch GameTrailers TV tonight? It looks so much better than I had any right to hope. I know it's the guys who made U.D. and that's why we're all so pumped for it, but goddamn. I'm so glad they pushed it back to make it the game they wanted.
Oh my god... there is no other game I'm more hyped for right now. There's games I'll pick up, I'm looking forward to the PS3 BioShock but God... God in heaven thank you for Radical entertainment.
They're doing us all a huge favor.
Even the running over cars looks so good. Especially after that choppy early build - I am so relieved and vindicated.

Really? Even...THIS? *snip*
Don't get me wrong, I'm as impressed as anyone that EA is actually developing an original property with a rather original idea, and the Mirror's Edge trailer is tucked safely away on my 60gig's HDD between the Wall*E trailer and RE5 - Mirror's Edge looks fantastic - but does it look as balls-to-the-walls fun as Prototype? No. Not by a country mile.
Never has an episode of GTTV reduced me to such drooling lust for a game. But then again, they've never shown anything with gameplay close to what I saw tonight.

.. i dont get gametrailers TV... is there a clip on gametrailers website? because everything on GT right now is from august
Perhaps in my post I oversold how fuckawesome I thought the game looked. I'm not trying to say it'll be the second coming of Christ - only that I, myself, was severely hyped by what I saw. It's like... what we all wanted the new Incredible Hulk game to be. We all wanted Ultimate Destruction in high def, maybe with some additional moves thrown in that spiced shit up.
Well, from the looks of it, Prototype is that game. Cool shit I noticed in the show (that I hadn't seen before) includes.... Hmm, I'll spoiler it - these are all things you may or may not want to know. Basically just what I noticed about gameplay, mechanics or smoothness.
-Alex (protagonist) hucking a car a city block (from the street, I saw no jumping and throwing)
-Alex deftly jumping onto concrete barriers, side-flipping onto an adjacent barrier and leaping onto the street, all very smooth
-Alex very quickly and smoothly running from an attacking helicopter, bounding onto and off cars, back into traffic never breaking stride (awesome!)
-several animations for absorbing puny humans (Alex punches a guy through the chest, and as the body falls tentacles/growths come out of his body and suck the guy into him.
-Alex jumping 100 feet into the air and going into what looked like Hulk's elbow slam from UD, only without having to jump off a wall to do it. He just jumped straight up, went into the pose and fell straight down, obliterating the tank he landed on
-Alex jumping straight up, then zooming towards a nearby helicopter (much like Hulk's targeted punch in function, but not in animation) on 'wings' of his infection
-Alex landing on a human and 'surfing' the body across the pavement, leaving a long smear of red.
-using weapons, what looked like a heavy machinegun to attack helicopters
-one sequence was very clearly viewing a helicopter as if it was being controlled by the player. This may be just a cinematic, or something observed by Alex, but it gives a touch of hope that it's something you can do. Absorb a pilot maybe?

You can fly helicopters and also use tanks,it's been confirmed from the beginning.
You need to absorb people to gain the knowledge of how to do it and then you can use them.
I'm exceedingly happy they delayed it. It's quite possibly my most anticipated game at the moment, and I would be ruined it if was released in an unfinished state.

Yeah, in previous generations, a delay tends to be a red flag. This gen, though, I think some developers and publishers have come around to the thought that maybe delaying a game to get it as close to right is a good thing.
I'm pretty sure that the devs said that they might be trying to get it back in with the delay, provided that this is the Gametrailers TV we're all talking about. And if they do, then fuck yes, that's a 360-version purchase for me seeing as how co-op Crackdown's my favorite 360 game.

They were very middle-ground with that comment, I thought. It's something they thought would be cool, if they could get it in. And for the record, I think it'd be pretty damn cool too.

If they did...the ability to fight each other would be great...also...dodgeball with cars.

Alone In The Dark is the exception, but otherwise yes.
Finally watched the videos on GameTrailers. Prototype looks so fucking good. April is so far away. It's like looking forward to Christmas on December 26th.

You can punch through a guy's head without it feeling satisfying, just like you can have a game where you just do plain old punching that IS satisfying.

I have no problems with delays any longer. It's almost always for the better.
That's being pretty genrous.
Also, Mercs 2 looks aces.
