Called a couple'a Game Crazys on a whim. Both had the game in stock, one said they "didn't know if they would have more than what was preordered" and the other said they "do have more than what was preordered, but not a lot, so get here as soon as you can". So, my wife's heading down there in an hour or so, hopefully they'll still have a spare copy.
If not, looks like I'm waiting until tomorrow.
I live in AZ and I shop at Game Crazy too. They know me by now and don't bullshit me too much but I would say that is probably bullshit. I'm pretty sure every day one release I've purchased with a pre-order from Gamestop/Crazy/EB have told me that "next time I should pre-order or they can't guarantee they'll have it." I got told that when I bought Final Fantasy 12 and I literally saw a bookcase full and many boxes full of the product, I highly doubt they had 300 pre-orders...

Ok I picked up the game but I'm EXTREMELY pissed off at the pre-order bonus. Remember that EBstop people were going to get a full sized 7" Alex Mercer figure? What I actually got was a cheep 3 and a half inch imitation. What the fuck, didn't the site list all the details and have a picture of a really high quality figure? If somebody can get an archived image of that page I'd really appreciate it so that I can send an angry email to GameStop corporate, because this is bullshit and absolute false advertising. :x
God damn it. I was expecting the real figure, not some cheap knock off.

Didn't they specifically say a full sized 7" figure and then have a picture of it? This thing is a cheep 3 inch piece of crap and mine isn't even completely painted, the fingers on his left hand are unpainted!

Oh yeah, I've definitely heard that "weeeell, I dunno...you should'a preordered maaaaan" line many a time. From Babbages to Electronics Boutique to EB Games to Funcoland to Gamestop, that line has been trotted out more times than I care to remember.
Hopefully they'll have a spare copy, but if not, oh well. I've still got my preorder at Gamestop and they are supposed to be getting it tomorrow. They sure as hell had better, anyway.

Well a game like ff12 there will be tons of copies, but m rated games that aren't rockstar or epic probably not, at least not opening day.
What a shock a preorder bonus that sucks donkey cock. Like the keychain from fall out 3 that fell apart in less than 5 months.

I don't think they specifically said it, but the picture looked exactly like the action figure from NECA
Well, I am right there with many of you, it isn't in today, they will have it tomorrow. I am seriously fucking sick of hearing "today was just the shipping day" when it clearly states TODAY IS RELEASE DAY. Not to mention plenty of other places have it.
i am shocked, SHOCKED that gamestop would try to screw people like that. oh well, better stick my head in the lion's mouth again.

Here is what I think is the picture of the figure that they were using to promo it on the GameStop page. Looks 100 times better than what I'm holding in my hand right now.
If this is too big I can spoiler it.
I never get that "free figuirine" offer with games. It's pointless. What, do they think that figure of a character from a game will at some point by valuable so it's worth keeping the fucking thing around! Like the Street Fighter 4 special edition I got with the figures of Ryu and C Viper. I wish I'd kept them because now I can't sell the fucking thing in!

I just called my local GameStop and asked if they're selling Prototype today and they said that they were. I asked if they had it in stock and he said "Yep!" So I guess I might make a trip over there.
I'm gonna have to go ahead and say if they went with Neca, you're lucky it looks like the main character at all. As a collectibles company, they're notorious for how different (read- shitty) their production model appears from the two-up molds they use to show off the product.
Hummm...my Gamestop preorder (ya, ya, I know, I'm a sucker for a figurine) says it's open and verifying. If it hasn't shipped yet when I paid for overnight shipping, I'm gonna be pissed.
Even more aggravating I placed it like, more than a month ago.

Cool, the Game Crazy that my wife's headed to still has it in stock. Good to go. I'll just have this Gamestop shift the preorder money to Batman or something.

Anyone got a picture of this presumed atrocity you received instead ?
Well it was badly painted (some parts not at all), not as detailed as in the thing I linked had his mouth open slightly but the thing I have has a fish mouth painted on, he looks slightly retarded in the face..
I have no idea whether he was bullshitting me or not, but the guy at my Gamestop said that the game is available today on the west coast, because that's where the distributor is. Everywhere else is getting it tomorrow. Of course, he also tried to get me to preorder it so it might have all just been a big lie so he could up his preorder numbers.
Yeah it's good, a nice mix of open world, abilities, weapons, vehicles, side missions and beautiful glorious carnage.
Also they have added The Web to tweak the storytelling while rolling it into the gameplay in order to enhance both, it helps the plot along nicely and for me it allows the game to push beyond what would have otherwise been a rather stale plot.

Can you go wildly off course between missions or even mission objectives?

If any of you are Floridians, the Gamespot at the Melbourne Square Mall has it.
I can also second the fact that the figurine is, quite literally, crap. The stand even sucks. He keeps falling over on my desk The map is quite useless as well, as it only shows off 50 of the 250ish secret orbs. Fail
Also, having played 2ish hours now, I can confirm two things:
A) Chain Link Fences are your bitch. The game, at least for now, was well worth the 60 dollars.
-edit- And C, yes, you can run around between missions and can stop a mission and go back to the free world any time you want. They call it 'Quite to Freeroaming' or some such.

He was bullshitting you (or he was just ignorant), but all of the Gamestop and EB locations I called aren't getting it until tomorrow, or so they say, and I'm in Phoenix, Arizona.
Thankfully Game Crazy was apparently smart enough to check that little box marked "overnight shipping", and as such, they win my $60 (plus tax).

BS. You can't get much further west coast than me (I can see the ocean out the window next to me here at my job), and my gamestop said that their shipment was somewhere on the east coast and I'd be lucky if it came in tomorrow.
The differences between chains is maddening. This is what I hate about video game releases. How such a large industry does not have a universal standard is insane.

So... if someone asks an East Coast gamespot, will they say thier shipment is in the Midwest and come full circle?

That's it! There's a shipping embargo and only select stores comfortable with "the man" are getting it!

The actual shipment is clearly coming from the core of the earth.
i ended up chatting up the store manager at my local gamestop in southern california. He said that due to a shipping error all the gamestops in california will get the game by noon, as opposed to having it when they open (10am). I am assuming it must be comming from somewhere local in order to have such a delay for the east coast while virtually no delay for the west coast.
Game is excellent, minimal load times, and generally just a great experience.

I'm confused. How do they do M+... Golf?
I mean, like "Mutant League Golf", I could see. (And would buy.) But a Licensed Golf Game? What are they gonna do, add strippers?
