The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Think of how people have chess tournaments or how we have millions of people taking the gameplay of football or soccer seriously. No one really looks at Bioshock, Jade Empire, KOTOR, GOW, or Lego Star Wars' gameplay and says "if you're good at those games, you must be a gifted cyber-athlete."
This was new, never quite think I have heard someone voice this opinion before. I think the thing that differentiates your taste in games against that of the reviewers and most gamers is the keyword "skill". It is true that the possibility to develop your skills thanks to a balanced and open system in games like starcraft and counter strike is very attractive to a lot of people, but I do not agree with that this constitutes "good gameplay". Good gameplay to me is a game that is hard enough to be challenging but not so hard that it is frustrating, but above all fun. If playing a game, fighting in it and solving its puzzles is entertaining to you, then it has good gameplay. This stuff about cyber-athletism is something else, imo.
Also, I feel that people are not calling each other homos enough in this thread.
Actually, I don't consider a person to be a "gamer" just because they play games. Someone who only plays Madden or WoW is not really a gamer to me. I'm not an idiot, I get the literal definition of gamer, but this is semantics, and you're splitting hairs just to be an ass. I don't consider someone to be an art collecter for having one painting on their wall. Same rule applies. I game as a hobby, I put a concerted effort into playing new games. Etc. etc. etc.
Hehehe.
"Concerted effort into playing new games?" Hahahaha.
I'm going to start calling mysef a real cake eater. Not like those guys who eat cheesecake and chocolate cake. I make a concerted effort to find and eat cake. They're not real cake eaters. Not like me.
Btw, this thread is overrated. I won't say why here, I'm going to make a new thread to discuss its overratedness.
I think that the problem with most video games these days is the average gamer. Seriously, what's the first thing some average dickhole says about a game? "Oh man, have you played XXX? The graphics are so awesome!"
This leads to a problem. Game developers these days make pretty graphics before any sort of real content. So what it really comes down to is the fact that games are rated and hyped based on stupid shit like graphics, motherfucking water effects and shit like that, and the story/narrative/gameplay mechanics all take a back seat.
I liked Bioshock because I thought it was a very immersive game and it was fun to just run around exploring. It could have been longer, as 99% of the games on the market today, and a little more story could have been thrown in there, but I found it to be overall a very solid game considering today's standards.
I fucking shit my pants in the dentist's office when the fog came down, preventing me from seeing anything, only to lift to reveal that the corpses on the ground had rearranged themselves. That fucking doctor standing behind me the last time really sealed the deal!
Also, it's subjective. There's no point in discussing which or what is overrated, because it always, ALWAYS ends in a flamewar. Calling something popular overrated is insulting, and people don't like it, and it never turns out well. So don't. Just say you don't like it.
BOOM end of thread.
This is the kind of response I would expect from a forum like 4chan. I'd like to have imagined that the PA forums were mature enough to actually discuss a point without flaming just for the sake of flaming. The OP did have some points. If you disagree, then say so and explain why. I fail to see how "opinions opinions lol", "bioshock rules" and "onoes, flamewar" posts are helping.

Yes, lets never talk about something that people might disagree on.

No lets never talk about something as stupid as 'X game is overrated' when it only ever boils down to subjective opinions. To say it is overrated means he is giving an opinion on the game.
So the whole argument is essentially 'I dont like this' followed by pages of 'I agree' or 'You are wrong I do like it'
Which is stupid. There's no discussion, its just one giant opinion thread, which always fail. If there was grounds to have a discussion then fair enough. But the people who do not like Bioshock are in such a minority it would be like having a thread arguing that Ocarina of Time is overrated. Or that Halo is overrated.
And Vic is right, you guys are freaking toolboxes. I'm not far enough into the game to really comment on the questions posed, but if you guys have a problem with the thread then either report it to a moderator or ignore it, because the "lawl gonna b locked soon" posts are retarded. When someone earlier posted that the OP might be better off going to Gamefaqs I chuckled, but he might actually be right in this case.
Whether or not this thread should be part of the main Bioshock discussion, don't play mini-mod and gunk it up.
EDIT - Or you could discuss the game design, durrrrrrrrrr

The OP is a flame, basically. It's an open-letter insult to anyone rating the game highly. And it's why this is a crap thread and why the original poster is being derided so heavily.
Bioshock met my expectations. Things I didn't like was the ending was anti-climactic and lack of diversification of weaponry/plasmids. There was also way too much ammo and money lying around for me to be able to harvest and have everything full only to use lightning/wrench/chemical spray(electric for Mr. .
Also, 200 Adam for saving 3 girls is a little too much. I'd rather have the idea that being greedy pays off a lot more then taking the high road.

I agree with you here, but there are ways to do it and ways not to do it. Creating a spin-off thread and formulating your opinion as an insult is not a way to garner discussion about your topic. At least in my opinion.
It kinda worries me that people are saying that it's linear, the endings are bad and that it's rental-material. Ah well, I'll still play it when my rig is up to spec.

The OP did have some points, but it has also been said PA is not the place to discuss this and Gamfaqs forums was. So take it as you see it but in my opinion ending this thread on a good point like the one I quoted is better than trying to defend some retarded notion of 'free speech' like you are, because the OP does have some good points, but they are covered in veiled flames and insults to a popular game, for no reason other than the underlying fact that he does not like the game and therefore feels the need to tell us under the guise of insulting the game by saying it is overrated.
One forumers opinion vs the majority of the forum + the majority of the gaming press.
I wonder which one is right, and which one is flaming.
There is a time and place for honest, frank discussion on the quality of a game. You dont go about it in the way the OP did.
The reason we are not dignifying the OP with this type of discussion is because it doesnt deserve it. So next time you feel the need to call someone out for not contributing to a thread think why they arent rather than saying we arent mature or come from 4chan.

Yes, but that's for the mods to decide, not the posters. There's a "report" feature for a reason.
