Get ready for the blood moon

A COSMIC ballet will bathe much of Australia's east coast in an ethereal red glow as the night sky becomes lit up by crimson moonshine.

But forget high-powered telescopes. A dark spot and roof tops will give some of the best views of tonight's Blood Moon eclipse.

At exactly 8.37pm (AEST) the Sun, Earth and Moon will be in total alignment, scattering light as it passes through the Earth's atmosphere and bounces off the moon in hues of bronze and red.

So if you're in Australia tonight at around 8.30 (Australian Eastern Standard time), the moon will look all scary and christians will probably call it the end of the world, luckily we have our precious science to call them stupid.

There's a cool animated dealy and some rad photos of some at the Blood Moon's wiki and if you wanna watch the eclipse but aren't down here in the lucky country, you can watch it live on the Discovery Channel's website, specifically here.

Has anyone ever seen a blood moon? I'm pretty excited.

    Full lunar eclipses are rad. I saw a cool one when I was a little kid. It is worth going out and checking out.

    Someday I hope to be in a full solar eclipse.
