What's the level cap for classes? My OCD complains loudly at switching classes before the current one is maxed out. Is there any "final reward" for maxing out, say, the Generalist class or is it just a waste of time?
Look into your Manual, all skills for all classes are in there.
And the max class level is like the max character level: 99.
I'm interested in this, too -- and GameFly doesn't ship the manual. I couldn't find this info on GameFaqs a few days ago, either -- might be there now, though. I hope.

Yeah, I haven't found any real issue with stink yet.. maybe it makes enemies attack more, maybe they focus on the affected person more in combat, maybe shop prices go up for you.. I'd have to look, but so far nothing has jumped out at me.

Stink doesn't do much in combat. What it REALLY does though, is that it makes enemies on the map/in the field "smell" you and attack you from a much greater range.

Yeah, it made enough of a difference to me, that I completely stopped using the "special" accessory the dog collar despite the bonus stats it gave.
I just finished the first disk, last night -- at about 18 hours of playtime, and party members at around level 23. I stayed up later than I wanted to, actually -- that last sequence goes one forever! very, very good, though.
I love when JRPGs give you a nice, long period of celebration after a big victory, like that. I also like when they acknowledge that, yes, you're a badass that (almost) singlehandedly saved the city. The whole sequence was very satisfying, like that.
I was worried when it slapped me in the real-time, action-style battle with Nene, though! I'm not ashamed to admit that I selected Easy Mode, or whatever. My first instinct was to furrow my brow and say, at loud actually, "Action elements in my ultra-trad' JRPG? What the fuck is this shit?" Luckily, it wasn't too bad.
Also, Zola:
So, she's hot and everything, but is it just me or does the Assassin class suck? The main benefit seems to be stealing stuff, but over the course of several successful steals on several main bosses, she got nothing but standard healing-type items. Fuck that shit, where's my insanely useful, unique Black Mail, a la Chrono Cross? That's the sort of thing that makes stealing useful. Aside from that, she;s a weaker version of Shu or Maru, with no magic attacks or other perks. :S
Assassin get's double strike at level 35. I turns your melees into monsters.
This one skill made Zola go from my useless character to my second best, outside of Miss Blackmage Flarus-blasticus (I eventually had her doing 3000 damage each attack).
What classes are you guys using for your teams? I've only played a few hours, so I only have three characters, but I was thinking something like sword/guardian/monk in the front and white mage/black mage in the back.
And is generalist worth putting some time into? Having extra skill slots would be nice.

I got all my guys a minimum generalist level of 8. That scores you +2 Skill and +1 Special Accessory. Those are a must.

Shit, yeah. Should I do it ASAP, or focus on getting other classes to a decent level first?

Depends. If you don't object to a little class grinding before advancing the story, then go ahead and grind up to get the generalist skills.
If you're just grinding while going through the story and don't stop for a bit to level up classes, you may want to get some of the main classes up first so you can switch tot hem at boss fights or tough enemies.

Yeah...really I slapped myself for not picking generalist as the first elective class. As you get further into the game...only have 3 changeable skill slots gets annoying. At this moment everyone in my party at least has Skill +4
For any Canadians looking to grab Blue Dragon, it looks like Zellers is putting it on sale for $39.99 from Sept 8th through 14th. If I hadn't already bought it, I'd be all over the game at that price.
Awesome, thanks for the heads up, I will go and buy it tomorrow

Well, I've gotten all my default jobs to their final skill, around level 36. Generalist is something you will HAVE to invest time into, I dare say. Those extra skill slots and accessory slots seem almost a necessary evil. I've brought my Generalist skill to level 18, which didn't take all that long, and that gives me four more skill lots and two more accessory slots.
As for everyone else, I may level up one more skill. I may level up Shu in Assassin because I may want to give him the double strike skill. Maru I'm not quite sure yet. I may level him up in Assassin, too. Kluke might get Barrier, while Jiro gets Support, or visa versa. I'm not sure about Zola yet, either. Maybe Shadow Sword.

For my, Shu, Marumaro and Zola were my Melees. All of them were at least 35 Assassin.
Shu then went to level 79 Monk, Zola to 38 Monk (for Attack Amp and Absolute Counter) and then 72 Assassin (just cause that class is cool). Marumaro went 35 Assassin, then 37 Monk (Attack Amp, Aboslute Counter) and then went guardian up to 78. With Total Guard, he would ALWAYS block a single attack on someone and if it was a direct attack, he'd counter.
Kluke was my Black Magic/Support Caster, with Support at 36 and Black Mage at 74.
Jiro I wanted to go Melee first, so he was a Sword Master 39, but then later switched him to Barrier Magic/Black Mage with Barrier 38 and Black Mage 67.

I take it you did a little grinding? I like Marumaro with Assassin and Zola with Guardian. I may only have them their default job + Generalist + one other. After all, they're pretty God damn strong already. I still one hit pretty much everything with their job selected as Generalist, even though that lowers their stats a great deal (sometimes even by half).

I actually only leveled about 2 hours at the beginning of the game, before going to the hospital.
Here's a question: is the Gorgo village an optional side-quest? I went down there just exploring and got into this pretty long side-quest (great rewards, though; definitely go down there).

I still have no idea what stink does though.
I always thought Stink attracted enemies towards you faster, but I have no basis for this theory.

Anyone have the lyrics handy? Google failed me
Also when do you start getting special accessories? I'm really tired of having a slot that does nothing.
I started getting them end of Disk1.

Or something.
Oh man, this was a fun ride and the ending fitted the game SO perfectly.
This game will always have a place in my heart as being really memorable.
Thank you Blue Dragon, for a wonderful trip of nostalgia!
Sweet
How long did it take you?
about 59 hours. I also killed the 5 optional dragon bosses and did all optional dungeons.
I did NOT kill the two super mega imba hyper bosses though.
I finished the game at lvl 63 and my highest class was 79.

I've been looking for a reason to buy this.
Most classes will max out around 32-38.
They won't give you new skills then, but they level up till 99.
