I actually hated the full version of Dragon Quest 8. It wasn't necessarily the combat that bugged me, but the ridiculous amount of grinding you had to do just to fight the next boss, as well as moving two feet and having to fight an invisible enemy. In a huge game world in a 50+ hour adventure, that second step started to get old fast.
I'm glad Blue Dragon isn't anything like that, though. You can see the enemy on the field and avoid him if you wish, and that's something that I like in JRPGs these days.
It also didn't help in DQ8 that the real villain was terribly lame.
You meet him for like a minute total. The clown was a much better villain. The tiny little goofy creature you meet as the main villain in DBQ doesn't even talk.
I hope they don't pull that in Blue Dragon.

I just beat the largest piece of POO have EVER seen in a video game.
Imagine a piece of poo so big, it fills half your tv. And then it ROARS at you!
Yeah, classic.
Also, I added UberEV to my friendslist and saw that he was near the end of DVD1 with a lvl 16 party.
That time, I was level 24. I think I might know why I'm stomping everything left and right...
I got so excited I accidently posted this in the Bioshock thread:
Hour 13ish Spoilers (but awesome none the less)
The Mechat fighting section was FUCKING AWESOME. That was such a great transition, it controlled well, it was just well done as a whole. Fuck I love this game.
I'm near the end of Disc one already? Geez short game.

Well, you ARE kinda breezing through it ^^
How else could I have taken 8 hours more than you??
And yeah the
mechat shooting is really awesome and I hope will come back one or two more times. Also, how did you like the robot bosses? I thought their character designs were great and the animations fantastic.

Well I'm going to grab impossible mode after this and jump right back in if I'm finishing it so fast.
The battles have not been hard either so I'm not rushing I don't think. I've never been in real danger of losing at any time. Also I'm keeping everyone focused on one class except for a few levels in black and white magic.

check under the bridge in front of castle jibral. you'll know what a nothing is then.
THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!
I wonder how there can be such a time difference between us. I certainly didn't level up for 8 hours!
Did you check everything everywhere? And went down every path available?
Also negotiation is the most important skill in this entire game.
It is? I actually never used it,I always forgot to take it before buying stuff. I'm at 100k gold and never ever came close to not buying everything I needed.
I restarted the game on hard mode tonight and it's harder, to say the least. I've had one of my characters die at least 3 times. In addition to enemies having more HP and hitting harder I swear the AI is improved a bit. They seem to go after my weakest characters without fail and tend to call in reinforcements when they need help.
People finding this game a bit to easy "out of the box" please go download Hard mode from the Hong Kong Marketplace. It's easy to do, it's free, and it will work with the NA version of the game...
So I finally managed to pick up a copy yesterday and played it for a few hours, impressions:
Character design: Not a huge fan of the DragonBall Z character models, but after an hour I didnt even notice.
Combat: Pretty close to classic JRPG combat system. You have a charge meter for spells, if you hit the sweet spot spell will go off immediately, if you dont, it will take longer to charge the spell. Also it can be a little bit grindy if you dont like combat, if you do and you try your best to gather 4 enemies to fight at once with some monster pick on the weak stuff going on it is extremely fun.
Class system: So far I have the initial 3 classes and unlocked generalist. Even though my stats took a huge dive going from lvl 12 to lvl 1 when I switched classes, combat didnt feel too much tougher. I am really excited to unlock some more classes.
Storyline: At 2 hours in I havent really been given too much to work with, but so far I am intrigued regarding the purple clouds etc.

Thank you so much. I've been trying to figure out how to switch to Hard Mode for the past month, even to the point of downloading the Japanese Hard patch (note, it doesn't work on the Asian version), but I just created a Hong Kong XBox Live account and downloaded the patch there and voila! I'm in business. Though I'm a good way in (halfway through the second disk), I'm going to restart on Hard mode since Normal mode was starting to bore me with its ease.
I'm on the second floor of Nene's fortress and I cannot beat the boss battle where you fight the four robots at once. Nothing else is giving me any trouble, and that includes the previous boss, they all fall with ease, but these assholes I can't even make it five minutes with. What the fuck is with the difficulty spike in an area WHERE I CANNOT POWERLEVEL BECAUSE THERE IS A FUCKING TIMER!?
I assume game over, that's the only other recourse for this scenario.... and there is no way to escape this place. This is such bullshit.
Try letting the timer run out and power level.
I think the timer is only for an achievement.
Also, are you on Disc 3???
Disc 2, and the timer can't be for an achievement because...
Nene strapped a fucking bomb to Kluke's neck Battle Royale style. In three days, the bomb either explodes or each of the children kill eachother.... wait I'm getting the two intertwined again. FUCK THIS GAME!

what level are you? gamefaqs recommends
level 42+, and says use watera magic to kill the entire front row at once.
i havent played it personally so i cant comment beyond that...
I'm level 26 at the highest, and that gamefaq's suggestion is so far exaggerated. I wouldn't mind being too low level if I had to time to level up or if EVERY OTHER MONSTER IN THIS GAME WAS A PUSHOVER AT MY CURRENT LEVEL EXCEPT FOR THIS BOSS. Horseshit I say.

How many Nothings did you find?

When you check things, you get gold, items, exp, SP and....Nothing!

Hm, I may need to equip it when buying new spells.
Oh that reminds me, did you get the Level4 Shadow spell in the Fortress? it was neatly hidden in the first room in that long, pitch black hallway.

It SHOULD be coming to the US and Europe shortly.
The HK content is compatible with the US versions of the game

Are those 30 new enemies the same enemies as you fought before except with different color schemes?
