Hah, I thought I was the only one. This was the first time I was able to roam freely on them without once getting stopped by security, custodians, etc. and instructed to slow down accordingly.
Most disparaging comment: "Do they make those in adult sizes?"
This is one thing that I probably wouldn't want to see catch on, however, because one person weaving through the crowd = fine. Multiple people crashing into each other in a crowded room = dangerous.
Well, does falling down count? Because otherwise, no.
BTW, how exactly does airport security respond to people wearing heely's? Do they make you remove the wheels to make sure they're not made of plastic explosives, or what?
Heh, I saw them in adult sizes a week before PAX and was tempted to buy a pair. I decided not to because I would have no other opportunity to use them.

Airport security didn't mind at all, actually they told me they would love to have a pair.
I fucking despise people that roll around on those things inside buildings. Then again that mostly stems from working security at a shitty amusement park and kids never listening when told they weren't supposed to use them in the park, and parents ignoring it and not disciplining their children at all when they continued doing it... So yeah, my first thought when I see people on them now is just that I want to slap them...

I used to think the same thing. I thought kids looked like freaking idiots wearing them. Turns out I shouldn't have knoked it before I tried it. :P
holy god, do you need a special sized car to drive in so you can fit your feet in the door?:!!:
Or I just fold my legs up origami style under me to get them to fit. Seriously. PT Cruisers? Not even an option. Most compact sedans are a challenge too. Hell, I usually have to special order shoes.
I saw a guy walking around in those at some point during the weekend. The fact that you have to walk toe-first makes it seem like an enormous pain in the ass. I don't envy anyone who had those on at PAX.
The toe to heel walking does suck at first, but once you get used to them you can walk heel to toe without doing the splits. I have never worn another shoe since my Heely's.
I'm 6'6" too, and only where size 14. Any higher and I'd lost hope years ago of finding a decent pair of shoes that weren't ugly work boots (which used to be all stores carried in large sizes for some reason).

I remember watching a TV segment on a new trend of runners going barefoot, because it was supposed to be a lot more comfortable or something since human bodies were never designed to wear shoes. One of the things they mentioned was that in order to practice running barefoot, you had to learn to run toe-first, because that was the more "natural" way of running. Apparently, human beings learned it wrong after the fact.
Personally, I always tended to run toe-first to begin with, since I simply felt more light and springy that way. But I guess that's just me.
Oh, and I haven't tried this yet, but if any of you have a video camera that you use ona regular basis, then heely's are a great way to take out the shaking.
Dude, I wanted to buy some years ago when I first saw them (at the mall in a Claire's), but I could never find my size. Where might I purchase some in womens' 10/mens' 9? Is there a store online?
If you go on their website, they'll list which models are available in your size, and online retailers you can search in. You can also check out the local sporting goods stores. I got mine from a place called zappos.com.
Several questions to you who use these fantastic shoes.
1) Do you use them for day to day wear? I mean, with the wheel in, do you get used to it and have no problem switching back and forth?
2) How is the "balancing?" Do you feel as though your feet are balanced securely enough? Or is it kind of like "One false slip and you're on your ass."
3) How do you propel yourself once you get going? Is it like rollerskates?
I've got a pair and haven't managed to use them properly yet, though I have managed to nearly kill myself on a couple of occasions. I'm lucky enough to have kid-size feet, so I was able to pick them up on the cheap. Still...I want to use them. I need someone to teach me, I think!

I also got mine at Zappos.com, I maked the shoe and size I wanted that wasn't in stock and had them notify me when they had some.

1) I wear them every day with the wheels, it's too much of a pain in the ass for me to take them out and put them in all the time.
2) Just like any other skating balancing on heely's can be tricky at first. It just takes practice before it will feel right.
3) You can use the "skooter" method; where you balance on your lead foot while you push with your back foot to get more speed.
I usually step forward with my back foot and make it my lead while I use my previouse lead to push forward. I will alternate my feet like that to pick up speed or make it over big cracks without having to stop rolling.
Then there is the figure 8. It's when you weave your feet in a criss cross pattern (without changing your lead). You let your feet spread apart from eachother a little (like your about to do the splits) and then pull them back to toe to heel alignment. The energy you use to pull your feet back together creates more momentum and is good for maintaining speed.
My only beef with heely's is the fact that kids seem to think that when in a crowded mall, I can cut right in front of that guy by a mere inch on my heely's and make it to the store I want. Meenwhile I'm trying not to trip over the idiot who didn't notice I was walking forward and thus my position was going to change from the time he made the decision and got in front of me.
I'm seriously going to just start tripping people that get too close to me. I don't mind using them to move around or move quickly, but stick with the flow of people around you and stop weaving in and out of the crowds.
Other than that, if I was still in college I would so get some. I debated taking my blades to school on many occasions because I would have to park so far from the building, but I didn't feel like putting them on/taking them off all the time.
I work in a large bakery. Quite large. As such, I walk about 15 miles a day just around the plant. My floors are perfectly smooth and I am thinking that these would assist me greatly.

I know! I get that constantly, either as an insult or a compliment... it's freaking hilarious.
Know any tricks yet?

Walking is so old school, get in the now!

Also, I always wonder why I see a kid sliding by on the floor, until I realize they have those on..

It is because you are wearing a children's toy on your feet
You would be surprised how many mature adults come up to me and ask where they could get a pair because they have always wanted some.

Until I slip and crash into the proofer.
