Well, with this having arrived about a month ago, it's time to expand the system a bit with surround sound.
I'm looking to get a nice HDMI compatible receiver for an upconverting DVD player I already have. I'm also likley going to be opting an Xbox360 around Christmas time, one with HDMI output hopefully, and I'm sure eventually a high def DVD player.
I'm willing to pay more for a receiver now, that will handle the future 1080p signals. What's confusing is a lot of receivers offer HDMI, but I've heard some of it is only passthrough, it doesn't decode any of the signals. Meaning I would have to run a separate digital audio line to the receiver, correct? That sounds dumb to me, I don't want to have to do that.
Onkyo 605. It's about 500$ and supports HDMI sound/video. 2 HDMI in, 1 out. I want to get this myself but I'm holding out for a receiver with 3 in/1 out and I haven't searched hard enough for that. I did a bit of research to find this one but I'm sure that there's even better out there.

I'm sometimes grumpy and random, feel free to overlook the strange man in the corner.
I saw a receiver from *gasp* sony that had converter that would convert ALL your input into an HDMI cable so you only had one cable running to the TV. This would be like... FANTASTIC if it didn't lose any quality from the other inputs. It was in crutchfield, I'll have to look it up and link it to find other specifics like number of HDMI inputs and so on.
This converts all the video inputs onto that HDMI cable for ease of TV hookup (this is like JIZZ factor for a receiver imo, I hate switching a bunch of device inputs).
The lower model STR-DG810 still has the 3 HDMI inputs, but doesn't convert the other sources to one cable.

Especially as to how "totally awesome" a 7.1 TrueHD audio experience may or may not be.

Satellite, DVD, and 360...
Think of how clean all the cords would be? Heaven.
EDIT: If I just went with two, which would suffer the least from using component (or is it composite?) and digital audio?
Fancyness
