The Sony Ericsson gaming boss, Peter Ahnegard, said that a PlayStation-branded gaming phone would be coming by Christmas. He also added that it might not be this Christmas, which probably pissed whoever he was talking to off to no end.
Sony Ericsson, who've already branded their W-line of phones the Walkman line, the K-line of phones the Cyber-shot line, and some random Japanese line the Bravia line, can easily brand another line (G, maybe, since P is taken) the PlayStation line. It doesn't even need games other than the mobile ones that already exist for their cellphones, which run just fine on SE's higher-end hardware.
I'd buy one if this is true. My contract ends this Christmas.
I really liked the idea behind the original Ngage but as we all know it had some pretty serious problems. A PSP cell phone would be almost a no brainer purchase to me.
Ugh... Is it so hard to carry a cell phone and your PSP at the same time? Seriously... it's starting to get ridiculous.

Yeah... I wouldn't mind merging my phone and PSP together if I had the money, but I don't see a UMD slot there. Kinda pointless to call it a PSPhone if it can't play PSP games.
It isn’t a rumor anymore, Sony is throwing down with a gaming phone especially now , when the holiday season approaches. Even if the phone won’t be released until February’s Mobility World Congress, the details are starting to surface about a new “Playstation Phoneâ€. The gaming phone will feature a games-oriented user interface and motion-sensitivity, which will supposedly introduce Wii-like gameplay on a mobile platform. Unfortunately, this sounds a lot like the failed Nokia N-Gage gaming phone, but here’s to hoping it’s not.

?!?
How in the hell is that supposed to work? You have to look at the screen you know.
Really guys, Sony Ericsson makes flat out awesome phones. Probably the best in the world. I have no doubt these will be among the best phones money can buy when they are released.
I guess I just never got the apeal behind using your phone as some kind of gaming medium. I use my phone to talk to people, using up its battery to play a game would kind of leave me in the lurch if I need to fucking make a call.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

If this is just the Playstation brand being stamped on a SE phone then it'll most likely be a winner. They make the best phones on the western market.
The motion sensitive controls for gaming make me a little worried, but hopefully that is just lies and what it means is that I'll have lots of fun little RPGs to play while I'm waiting around.

I'm sure it's a decent cell phone, but unless it plays PSP games the Playstation branding is pretty damn pointless.
Hell, EVERY cell phone can play downloadable games nowadays.
Edit: And unless I'm missing something, the games it plays are the same games you can get on pretty much every other phone.

This has reminded of all that weird crap Sony had plans for with random Playstation branding. Did they ever make those expensive wineglasses? Or was it just an absurd dream?

Aren't US phones somewhat hamstrung or something? Like, the games we have in over here (Zuma, Tetris, shitty cash-ins of other games) are nothing compared to the games in Japanese markets?

Japanese and Korea are years ahead of us in their mobile phone technology.

Well, maybe this is going to start bringing that level of technology over here, if it does well enough in those regions first.

The reason why you don't see that level of technology here is because the cell phones here don't have set standards. In Korea, the TV on the phone thing started because the government made it possible for the various companies to do it.

Unfortunately, that's not the way it works for lots of reasons.

If it just ran games that were already on other cellphones anyway, why bother getting the PSPhone?
Cargo Pants. Problem Solveded.
Exactly. Hell my cell phone and my DS both fit in my pocket without a problem, why do we need to combine the PSP and a cellphone?
Although it doesn't look like it combines the two... really.
I agree. It sounds like a rather bad idea.
Which is why I expect Sony to do it.
You have. I know for a fact it's been shown on this forum before. This seems to just be gizmondo digging up old news and pandering it as new.

I can see it now, $599 US DOLLARS LAWLZZZ...
Looks like another N-Gage to me...at least as far as the US is concerned since we have such a wonderful cell phone structure.
What about those of us not fond of public ridicule?
A Purse.

I forgot about that.

Why?
A lot of Koreans even watch TV on their phones.
Well, maybe this is going to start bringing that level of technology over here, if it does well enough in those regions first.
