Thanks for the answers Syndalis and Bruin. Portable gaming isn't my thing but I'm still interested in this new model since I work in a game store and we're expecting this soon.

That's thinner? Looks like they shaved less than a quarter of an inch off and called it a day. Is it at least noticeably lighter feeling?

Think I too would rather just stick with what I got. The big thing, the TV out feature, is DOA if it requires a progressive scan output. Having to pull the TV out from behind the wall to reach the hookups every time I want to play on the big screen is so not going to be worth the trouble.

I wasn't expecting a drastic change like the DS got, but geez.

Despite any bitching you may have noticed, I really like the way the new model feels. The tiniest changes made a big difference to how it felt in my hands, and the dpad is fucking wonderful.

Now to find a bigger battery, since this guys is more power efficient, but they put less MAH under the hood as a result.

That's cool. My hand cramps up something fierce when using it, especially when using the analog nub. So maybe the lighter weight helps.

But like I said, I would have gotten it for the TV out. But if it's prog scan only, it borders on uselessness, so the money is better spent elsewhere. Ah well.

    * Better Wi-Fi conection.
    * Faster loading times by storing UMD data in temporary memory.
    * Internal memory (RAM and FlashROM) increase from 32 MB to 64 MB.
    * Improved battery life due to lower power consumption, and battery recharge over the USB data connection. However the old, higher-capacity PSP battery will still be compatible and using it will give an increased battery life, but the battery cover will not close when using the old battery due to the larger size.
    * Weight has been reduced by 33%.
    * Unit is 19% narrower (slimmer) in thickness.
    * A video-out port for displaying on a TV.
    * Improved responsiveness of d-pad[4] and buttons, confirmed in the GameSpot "hands-on" review: "several GameSpot editors have noticed that the d-pad and buttons on the new PSP provide a little more tactile feedback for a better overall feel."[5]
    * Wi-Fi switch moved to the top of the console.
    * New UMD loading tray design.
    * Removal of the infra-red port.
    * Speakers repositioned on the front of the PSP near the top of the screen.
    * Memory Stick slot has been relocated.

uh yeah that's a pretty drastic change

okay, I got the p2000 today.

The daxter pack did not come with headphones or the tv out cable like I thought it would. Nor was there any kind of sock, sleeve, or screen protector. Lame.

But the system is great. Just finished playing an hour of Jeanne d'Arc, and it feels better in my hands than my friends old PSP, and the dpad is worlds beyond the old one.
How did you get it today?

This has probably been answered numerous times before, but is the pricing going to stay the same as the current PSP model?

Bolded for "big whoop". Faster loading is nice. Dunno what effect having more memory will have. Probably only for faster loading, because no games can use it. And while a better Dpad and buttons are nice, that's fixing a problem that should have been fixed during the design of the PSP to begin with. And then the whole "game output must be in high def" bullshit.

I'll say it one more time. Props if this is your first PSP or whatnot. Certainly the one to get if you want one. But there's nothing here for me that warrants even thinking of an upgrade.

you are right in that it is a rather small list for folks to consider buying yet another PSP just for the upgrades...

but these upgrades (especially the feel of it and the reduced loadtimes) are what pushed me over the edge into buying one in the first place.

Even though I have no business thinking about getting one of these...I may have to get one, just for improved comfort in hands and the new buttons alone. I love my current PSP, and this sounds like just what I would want in a new model.

Now, I just have to convince myself not to go out hunting for it tonight, even though I'm lame and have nothing else to do. :)

Have you gotten it to work? Somewhere it was said that you can output UMD's and videos via regular interlaced, but it's the games that must be in progressive scan.

    ...yes.

The 360 can output 480i through component just fine. Just flip the switch on the cable to SDTV.

    Was this even a question?

Anyways, it doesn't matter. There are composite cables at my target for the PSP 2000, so this really is a total non issue.

Huzzah! They're not idiots! In other words, it was meant to say "Games can be output in progressive scan", not "Games must be output in progressive scan".

Ok, I've no grievances with this now. Might pick one up in the future, but the regular one is more than sufficient for now.

All they need now is to make an adapter that allows you to use a Playstation controller when in TV mode. :)

Well, I can now say beyond any shadow of a doubt that I am happy with my purchase of a PSP. Jeanne d'Arc, Daxter, and the GTA games will keep me busy for a long ass time.

Then, FFT will come along and own me outright.

Between the PSP, DS, 360, Wii and PC games I want to play, it will be a miracle if I get any work done.

So, out of curiosity... I have GTA VCS and LCS, Daxter, Jeanne d'Arc, FF2, THP8, and Smackdown vs. Raw 07.

Aside from the OBVIOUS must buys like MGS: Portable Ops, what are the good games for the system I should own?

-Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is great if you can get it online and you don't suck at it.
-A crap ton of RPG's like Valkrye Profile, Dragoneer's Aria, Brave Story and Riviera
-Puzzle games like Lumines, Puzzle Quest, Worms 2 and Crush are all great if your into that kind of thing.
-Killzone:Liberation, the Syphon filter games, Socom for action
-Fighters like Tekken , Guilty Gears and Street Fighter Alpha 3 which probably play much better with the new d-pad

Then games like God of War, Silent Hill origin, Crisis Core, and Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles coming out pretty soon, yeah, theres alot of crap on the psp. o_O

edit: o yeah, definetly Wipeout pure, TONS of downloadable content and fun as hell.

    Puzzle motherfucking Quest.

    Yes, I limed myself.
