Anyone else have problems with Dawn of War and Dark Crusade working with Steam?
I couldn't find the platinum pack around here, so I bought them through Steam yesterday. They won't start up if I select them through the Start menu, they run in windowed mode after a few tries opening from Steam itself, and the sound is garbled. Bah, I forgot how annoying gaming on the pc can be.
Every once in a while I'll have some weird resolution error with my steam'd dawn of war, but that may be because of a widescreen issue. Every once in a while the game'll fail to start, then it'll start in 800x600. Once I set it back in the options it restarts and everything works.
No sound issues, and no problems actually in-game.

Are you guy playing quick-start four v fours or something? Because that last comment is probably the most retardedly incorrect shit I've ever heard. IG is arguably the MOST micro intensive race. Guardsmen squads, unwatched and unmicroed, will die to concentrated enemy fire in approximately one feptosecond.
Also at a 150/300 price-tag, basaliks most certainly cannot be spammed. So yeah... are you guys playing QS or what? Because that is the only circumstance under which I could possibly see those comment as being anywhere near correct.

Yah IG have a shit load of micro to not die.
Like, Jesus.
Commisars and Priests are made of win. Especially Plasma Priests.
150/300 isn't that much. Vypers are 115/75 and I make about 10 of them. 1150/750 is so much more than 450/900. But then all Eldar units are basically 10000 HP guys in daemon armor.
Then again, I hate automatch players as a rule, but that's just because watching automatch Eldar games is really fucking annoying. You guys think I'm bad, I'm nothing compared to those fucks.

Yeah in T2 guardsmen squads with priests don't all die instantly, but its a long hard road to T2, and against a good player theres a good chance you will have lost map control at that point, unless your micro is fucking incredible.

Its the 300 not the 150 thats the problem. 300 power is a serious investment in any close/1v1 scenario, and basalisks really arn't that helpful till you have two or so. And again man, if you've got 1150/750 lying around I'm really curious if you guys are playing quickstart or doing some kind of no rush 20 mins scenario or what exactly. Its too large an investment for too little gain, in any non float scenario.
And yeah eldar units? I'm pretty sure I could fire a lasrifle directly up a firedragons nose and all he would do is sneeze.
(The result of which would probably eliminate a squad of unupgraded guardsmen.)
I don't get 10 or 3 because I play automatch, which means if anyones ever got more than 500/500 banked, the game should be over by that point. You dont see 10 vypers being built, or three basaliks pretty much ever... unless the guys just started toying with you I guess. I'd rather tech hard, hold my own with well microed infantry and get a baneblade.

I'm actually offended at the implication we play quick-start.
Well, we did that one time, but that's because I had it set so I could hurry up and get cloaked webway gates and see my DRs shiny bullets without having to go through the tedious gbgf ba shift bp shit over and over.
Zen Vulgarity... I can do the witty/childish flaming with the best of them, but I'd rather not shit all over the thread...
Goomba:
I dunno if you play big team games, like four v fours and stuff, where you build up a load of resources whether you've chosen quickstart or not doesn't really make that much of a difference I suppose. In the end its my experience those kind of games in my experience become a "BGH moneymap!!!olol" scenario where mass production/spamming trumps effective use/microing. Thats never really been fun for me, which is why I never play higher than 2v2s, but if you guys enjoy that thats cool. TBH that bunker map you guys were playing in the earlier thread looked pretty badass. Do you guys still play at all?
PS: I have to say I'm pretty amazed by the following IG has on this board. Online, there are like, two of us. We hang out with the ork player sometimes though.
Man, you can't shit on this thread any more than Balrog did. And the last game one was half of us talking about random stuff and the other half was "Someone please play. Please? Anyone?".
And we do play big games, but that's so everyone can play. I try to pick maps that keep it from being one huge meatgrinder in the middle, even if those are fun to watch. I'm sure if we get enough people we can have multiple games going at once. There's not that many good 4v4 maps.

In other news, you should get vent and hamachi, then play with us, then you would see. Besides, I like the way goomba sounds when people play IG.

You missed a 1v1 last night, DoA. I won because the friendly FWs decided to come over to my cloaked turret and LP to say hi, while in negative cover. Then my army decided to come out and play.

Maybe I'd have been there if you didn't have such a backward ass timezone.
Who wants to see 2 replays (1 of Orkz, 1 of Chaos) of me keeling Goomba's Eldar 1v1?

Well we don't, so it's not that expensive. Which means you can spam them.
Which is what he said.
Well you play 1v1 automatch. I guess if you're into that stuff, ok, but I like having fun.
ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing
I like winning/playing a game as well as I possibly can. That is fun for me...
But if losings fun for you, hey I guess if your into that stuff. ;-)
(So should we cut the foreplay and just 1v1 or what haha)
I'm actually offended at the implication we play quick-start.
I'm totally glad to hear that auctually. No offense akira, but when people say things like "Spam Basalisks ftw" it has... implications.
Also, I love your sig image. Fucking tau. No race gives me more pleasure to murder.
Ummm..... to clarify, your sarcasm detector is broken. He wasn't actually serious about unit spamming. People say silly stuff like that all the time in here, but since you're relatively new to the threads you probably didn't realize this.

yes, actually.
I've nowhere to upload em, so pm me your email address.
Oh goddamnit, DoA, go back to your keyboardless hole.
But Gooba, won't you have more fun with higher quality opponents?
I imagine playing DoA is what it's like to play against me, only a bajillion times more annoying.
I'd say you're more annoying than I am.
I take the direct approach and commit to a fight whereas you stick to being an ass with cloaked rangers, and running away when responded to.
The way to beat Goomba is to just swarm him with enough squads to tie up all his bastard units in melee, especially the rangers. My tools for the job are Cultists (Chaos) and Sluggaz (Orkz).

Well that's why I get a turret wherever I expect combat now. Those things are both shit against turrets.
Also, webway jumping is a good counter to that, I imagine.

Although I see Sentinels used a lot.
Why would you care? You're almost all infantry. Outside of them sitting right outside your base, raping your gens.

And if you even point a missile launcher at a Vyper it dies.

Especially to people who play like I do. (read: aggressively)
That being said, I don't really enjoy losing either.
I'm really not that good. I stopped playing DoW on a competitive level around the time patch 1.3 came out for vanilla, years ago.
Now back then, I was pretty awesome.
I'd say you're more annoying than I am.
