To be fair, the OP is back from when they were trying for a realistic game, before they adopted the new art style and told plausibility to eat shit and die

Does the launcher have barbed wire wrapped around it, or the rockets

You can put together everything you need for about the price of a PS3. That will run just about everything, save maybe Crysis at max and a few other unoptimized console ports *cough*GTA4*cough*. It's a little more expensive if you want to buy off the shelf, but not horribly so (unless you get ripped off by buying a "premium gaming PC").

I can run pretty much anything right now anyway.

The only upgrade I would need is a graphics card, I just dont know which one would strike a nice balance between future proof and affordability.

I have an 8600 geforce now. So if youd like to throw out a recomendation my ears are open.

The 4870 is a good card, and if you want ATI's top of the line the 4890 is a bit better and still cheap.

if you've managed to scratch by with an 8600 so far you should go with a 4770. It's a good card for a very cheap and amazing price, and is at an incredible value for 22" screens and below. Or the 4870, which is better but more expensive.

I think I remember this game being mentioned before but I glazed over it due to it's previous art style and just saw it as a Fallout 3 knockoff with vehicles.

But my oh my how things have changed. This game went from an unoriginal glut to a fresh-sounding and genuinely exciting effort. The Crackdown-ish artstyle helps, and the random loot and enemy behaviors are extremely enticing. I've also heard that there are "elite" weapons in every category, but even those are apparently not going to be the best for everyones taste.

    Overall, fuck yes I'm excited.

The October bit is terrible news. There are already 4-5 big games coming out that month, plus Windows 7. It's going to be one of the most expensive gaming months ever.

So you can pick a class, but is there any sort of aesthetic customization? Or is it like Left 4 Dead in that there are 4, and only 4, characters? While that method of dealing with characters works in an hour to two hour long campaign, it'll be pretty jarring in a big, procedurally-generated, "persistent" world to find your doppleganger periodically dropping in to kill manz with you.

You guys are aware that in addition to kicking XP's ass conclusively in performance tests, Windows 7 will cost $50 to upgrade to, courtesy of Best Buy? And that RC1 of Windows 7 is active until June of next year, in case you're not sure?

This has gone unanswered for too long. According to some old previews they were saying that there were clothing pieces that were generated in a similar style to the weapons, but I honestly haven't seen anything since they announced the new art style that mentions it. I'm not sure if it got deep-sixed or if they're just focusing more on the having lots of guns and the feeding of shit to plausibility to mention it in any recent previews.

Edit: Whether or not armor's been axed it seems like there's still going to be enough customization to make your character look unique. As snipped from an undated preview from some place I've never heard of called Strategy Informer:

"On to more RPG elements, all players are completely customizable. Teams of four don't have to have each player be a different character, because as the developers ensured us, everyone will be so different after customization that you'll never find someone quite like you."

New article at IGN: Borderlands: Mixing Genres, with a little bit of new info; Named Bosses with unique loot tables, dungeon-instances (called doglegs) and splitscreen local co-op (no splitscreen online). Otherwise it's talk about their design and goal for the game which was interesting to read (Halo with Diablo loot).

I'm a little leery of that statement. I haven't seen anything explicitly spelling out that they're allowing of visual modification beyond the weapons; the quote, in context, appeared to be referring to their equivalent of WoW's system.
