Hmm How about another looking glass game, like System Shock 1 or Ultima Underworld I or II. Or are those graphics/control schemes too painful nowadays? Perhaps a non 3d game would hold up better, I dunno.

I'd throw in a nomination for Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri, since frankly the cutscenes are easier on the eyes and ears as screenshots than they are in action.

    *standing ovation*

Good show, sir. Well played in every sense of the words.

That said, someone mentioned a playthrough of Oblivion using a Batman theme? Was that here on the PA forums, or somewhere else? (if nobody knows I'll google it later, but I'm about to head out from work, finally)

I've always been disappointed by that ending. You're going up against SHODAN who has actually become godlike, and all you have to face are some red ninja bots and some glowing data packets flying about?

Plus, SHODAN's "possess Rebecca" plan is kind of silly. Goggles is going to greet them when they return to the Von Braun. He'll see Crazy-Hair Rebecca and shoot her on the spot.

Now possessing her and waiting, until they've returned to Earth and SHODAN can begin anew...

Yeah, I like how the "posses other person" plan also makes no goddamn sense. Hell, if anyone wouldn't the dude whose cybernetics she installed be the easiest target?

She didn't fancy inhabiting a dude.

Isn't there mention of another soldier getting the cybernetic implant works? Isn't Rebecca a soldier? (These are genuine questions, I can't fully remember)

There's mention that Shodan has a second "avatar," but this is referring to Delacroix sho Shodan was aiding early on, but then abandoned for Gogglehead when Delacroix started to figure out what Shodan was really up to.

Rebecca was just some random Von Braun crewmember. As for the implants, the main character is the only one who gets them, and that's at the specific request of Shodan (posing as Polito). Speaking of which, I still maintain that the ghost we saw in Engineering was the main character, as one of the later emails while going through the Body of the Many, Shodan is going on about how it was her whim that gave us the implants, and how she ordered some droids to "render us us unconscious." Since shit started happining on the Von Braun at a fairly slow pace, I could easily imagine there being a couple droids with stun prods or something waiting at the nearest Reconstruction Chamber for our good friend to re-form.
It's been a while since I last played it, but I thought that
The "Second avatar" was Goggles. The first one being Polito until she realized what SHODAN's plans were and killed herself. I specifically remember SHODAN saying something about Polito "being too weak" to serve her or something like that.

Why does Shodan speak in a normal way but speaks like a Generic Insane AI when she isn't pretending to be someone else?

    Throwback I guess.

And this isn't the full SHODAN, either. Just a piece of her. So it's a little MORE fragmented.

I don't know about doing Deus Ex, my playthrough would probably end up being nearly identical to the Sunglasses at Night walkthrough, which already exists.

As for PS:T, I'm not sure about doing an RPG or something, as I'd either have to post page after page of text, or start summarizing and risk omitting something vital or particularly interesting/amusing.

In any case, I'll be spending this week digging through my stuff to figure out what would be best.

Just throwing the idea of Deus Ex 2 out there

    I'll second this recommendation.

I'm down with that. Hell, I might even be up for it myself once I finish my Silent Storm runthrough, courtesy of the Let's Play thread on it.

Not to get off topic, but if you really want to get nostalgic for this genre of game - in 1982 Phoenix Software released a picture/text adventure game for the Apple II called Queen of Phobos. It took some elements from text games like Zork and Adventure and moved them into a sci-fi setting. And the plot is pretty familiar -

You arrive on a derelict starship, the Queen of Phobos. She's a luxury liner that is now adrift in space. Her passengers and crew are dead. And there is a valuable artifact on board - a mask of alien origin that grants the wearer great power.

The long and short of it is that you have to explore the ship and overcome obstacles (in the form of damaged passageways, traps such as laser turrets, and looting bounty hunters that are also after the mask), somewhat similar to SS2. The bad guys are the best part of the game - a giant beetle called a "Geuse Beetle" that walks upright and carries a gun. Apparently it's also an alcoholic beetle because you kill it by tricking it into drinking a 6 pack of poisonous beer. Another of the bounty hunters is a lizard man who, if I remember correctly, wears a fedora or a hawaiian shirt. But he looks vaguely like the lizard-esque bounty hunter from Empire Strikes Back. And last but not least, the third bounty hunter is human. His name? Thompson S. Hunter. He looks like... well, you can figure it out. You kill him the old fashioned way - shoot him in the heart with a laser crossbow you get when you kill the lizard.

Anyway, this was one of the first computer or video games I ever played, and it's still a favorite, for sentimental reasons. There are definitely some elements of the game (corridor design, the life vest and legal disclaimer, messages left behind) that probably inspired parts of the SS games, and eventually Bioshock.

I get the start menu fine, and can select options, but as soon as i try to start a new game, or go on credits or intro, it just goes back to my desktop. I am running on windows 2000, do i need to get a patch for it? Coz i am dying to play this game.

EDIT: Complete misunderstood you. My home computer is a piece of junk, my regular one died on my, and now I have to use this....old 2000. I should beef it up soon, but I am not the best at computers, and I don't wanna break my only one. I know it should be able to play SS2 and Fallout, but it doesn't seem to want to .
