So yesterday, I put down my final payment on Halo 3. Due to the fact I'm not going to make the same mistake as Bioshock and come into the "lack of funds" moment in my life again. Thankfully, that lack of funds moment has gone the way of the dodo but for some reason I found myself not buying some games I've been wanting.
Now it could be do to the fact that they didn't have it in stock. Or they tell you it's new but some how a new game should not be opened. Or you could be like me and totally forget about it until you get home and the wife asks, "Did you bring the game home?" -- Damn ...
So what game has not been added to your library for some dumb reason?
Me, you ask?
Well if you insist:

I've played it... Hell, I've beaten it (on normal, anyway). But I've never owned a copy and I've never played Substance. I'm secretly hoping that they'll Wiimake it like Twin Snakes.
I've never played Diablo 2 ... By the time D2 was out and popular, my excuse was that I'd just wait for Diablo 3 to come out and latch onto the series then.
There are a few games I haven't picked up that I'd like to, but they're all because:
a: I don't have all that much extra money
b: To get all that much extra money, I am working 9-5(minus the times I go to class), 5-7, and 7-11, plus running two personal projects and already filling up my gig schedule for the spring with a similar schedule of work. While this is nice, it also gives me no time to play games, save Saturday and Sunday mornings(Evenings and nights are filled by gigs). This is actually the bigger problem recently. Like, I am now making enough that I can be all like "Hey $60 for a game? I can afford it", but I don't even have the time to spend that money on, like, food.
I really wish I had the money and time to throw around and just say "Gee, I forgot to pick that one up", but dammit, I know exactly why I haven't picked them up.
It's almost painful for me when I see a new game come out that I really want. I've set enough aside that I'll be able to get SSBB and Galaxy, but that's pretty much it.
Oh, also a handheld. I'm still debating whether I should splurge for the DS and have a wealth of games available, or if I should only fork out the $50 for a Micro because I'm mostly going to be playing FFVI on it anyways.
I really relate to this idea. There are games I know I would probably like, but I'm so weird about the decision to actually *BUY* a game. It almost has to be an impulse purchase or I waffleate terribly. I don't know why, other than to say I'm a cheapskate and I'm tired of buying games and then shelving them a few days later because they don't hold my interest.
For example, I just bought an Xbox 360 last month. I still haven't bought Gears of War yet. I waited for over a year to get Battlefield 2 even though all my friends had it. By that time, they had all moved on to BFV and BF2042 or whatever.
For awhile I had a crappy computer and waited for over a year until I upgraded to play Half Life 2. I was instantly sorry that I had waited so long to upgrade. Man, that was a great game.
I've never played Diablo 2 ... By the time D2 was out and popular, my excuse was that I'd just wait for Diablo 3 to come out and latch onto the series then.
Well there's no reason to continue holding off for that reason, or because it's old. It's still my favorite PC game ever. And I'm pretty sure you can get the game+expansion for $20 new.
Most games fall into the "I'm not going to pay $60 for that" pile. Like Gears of War. And then there's Bully, which I want to play but since finding out about the Wii/360 version, I'm going to continue to wait on a purchase. And then there's the actual games I want to own but haven't pulled the trigger on:
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Metal Gear Acid 2
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
I waited three years to get Half-Life 2, even though Half-Life was far and away my favorite PC game ever. Now that I've finally played HL2, I'm holding out on Episode 1 for no reason that I can tell you.
Diablo II is one of my top-ten games of all time.
Even though it's more than five years old, they still sell it at big box retailers (Target, Wal-Mart), and it's still selling for a bit - the Battle Chest with the game + expansion lists for $40.

Buying Diablo 2 and the expansion now is a good way to avoid spending a lot of money on games this holiday season.
Personally, I haven't bought just about anything for the Wii because all the prices are still $50 for what I'd be willing to pay $15-$20 for. Really the only game I can EVER remember spending $50 on is Twilight Princess, and it totally wasn't worth it. I'd say my average game (even for the games I've LOVED) cost me about $14, and spending more than $20 feels like a flat out rip-off unless it's a game I just must have right now.
There aren't many of those, so I end up waiting for Greatest Hits/cheapo Amazon.com used versions of titles like Excite Truck, Paper Mario, MP3, etc. $20 is the sweet spot for me, $30 can be tempting if I'm really interested in the game, and I MIGHT shell out $40 if I think the publisher could use the extra early sales (usually smaller or more niche titles fall into this category, but then a $40 new offering is pretty rare).
I don't buy a lot of games I really want simply because I don't have time for all of them.
I've had to sacrifice some really good games simply because other really good games eat up my time.
And by the time I'm done with those games that I'm playing, there are more new good ones out or coming out that I want, and so I'm faced yet again with a situation where I can either spend my time with the newly released ones or go back and buy the previous ones that I had to forgo.
So.. essentially... there are like 50 games I would really genuinely like to own and play, across multiple platforms, but realistically, I just don't have the time.
I really want a 360, as well; but at this point in my life (law school), the Wii and PS2 and DS are easily providing more than enough gaming entertainment than I can possibly fit into my schedule. I still haven't touched some of the games I currently own, let alone the ones that I want and still haven't purchased yet, let alone the avalanche of good games coming out this Fall.
Resident Evil 4: Owned a Gamecube, never bought it, sold the gamecube, bought a Wii and still don't have the Wii edition, I did however JUST rent it and am JUST getting ready to play it for the first time.
Metroid Prime 2: Never got ambitious enough to beat the first one on my Gamecube (Im a PC gamer mainly), so I never bought the 2nd

Because you'll be so busy playing Diablo 2.
As soon as I buy Diablo 2, they'll announce Diablo 3. My luck has been that bad lately.
I'm easily frustrated, so I often hold off getting a game in order to give it time to "bake", if you will (the second the Bioshock patching situation is 100% hashed out I guarantee you that I will download that sucker and probably not come up for air for a day or two). PC gaming is also an expensive mistress, so I often squirrel away the cutting edge new games people are currently raving about while I slowly work through my backlog of older A-list titles and concentrate on console games. It's pretty common for me to not even try a top flight PC game until I get around to one of my biannual upgrades. It's sort of nice; my first impression of just about every PC game these days is with all graphics settings set to the maximum and it is not uncommon for the game to represent an aesthetic quantam leap over whatever I was playing prior. I'm sure the look on my face when I first tried out Half Life 2 was priceless.

I can vouch for this, first time I played HL2 was on a PC that just about ran it, on my newer PC it is glorious.

First of all, no they won't. And I don't see how a company announcing a sequel to a game that came out 7 years ago is "bad luck" for anyone.
Second of all, Diablo 2 doesn't cost much anymore. It's been out for like 7 years. By now you could've saved enough money to buy it dozens of times.
Third of all, the announcement of a hypothetical Diablo 3 doesn't suddenly make Diablo 2 not worth playing. They are not the same game.
Fourth of all, if they did announce Diablo 3 today, it still wouldn't be out for a year or longer, leaving you plenty of time to play Diablo 2.
Fifth of all, Diablo 2 is a sweet game and there's no logical reason that, if you've really wanted it since it came out, you wouldn't have had it by now.
The game's been out 7 years. Its sequel still isn't announced. I think it's safe to say you could have bought the game at any point in the last 7 years and not have felt cheated.
Half Life 2 - Decided to wait on it for awhile, then figured my computer couldn't run it, and now i am just broke.
Fallout 1/2 - I don't know, computer RPG's just don't interest me really. Never did, and if i never play this game, probably never will!
Bioshock - got perfect 10s in EGM, caught me by surprise... figured it would be more something like Halo(a little less quality i guess) But super-hyped, minor fault or two here, not quite perfect but REALLY good game. But i have no desire to play it, single player FPS's just don't excite me i guess.
Basically anything without online play i don't consider purchasing(besides Guitar Hero 2... i love my GH2) For lack of interest, or lack of funds for the truly great games

I still haven't gotten Command and Conquer 3... I mean, I owned all the previous ones (except Generals, but I got that in C&C First Decade, and it's not the same anyway). Why haven't I bought C&C3 yet? It baffles me!

with me the reason was that I was poor for so long, and now that I have money I kinda feel guilty dropping cash (even $20) on a new game. Theres other reasons too that one is at the top of my list though.
