i...i really don't see what's so wrong with heath ledger
dude's a good actor
Yes. He's not the Joker, though.
Same with Jack Nicholson.
Honestly, my main gripe with Heath is that he's not thin enough.
Yeah, I hope they put him on a Machinist-like diet.
So he can shoot a 30 second take and then have to recover for 10 hours, that would be horrendous. I think he is about the right build, I kinda want the joker to be a bit tougher and bigger built, not smaller like Cillian Murphy.
What the hell are you talking about, he is a capable actor, it's just like saying Jaime Foxx shouldn't have been put in Ray and then won an oscar because all his other movies.
Winning an oscar for a biopic is like selling hugs at retard town. I mean if he was that good he wouldn't have starred in Stealth or Miami Vice (Assuming the negative press is true).
Your right, but no one is ever going to fill the role of Joker. Each artist draws a Joker that doesnt really look like other artists jokers, be it his chin, teeth, skininess whatever. That being said there is never going to be a perfect look for Joker, it's how he pulls it off.
Heath has shown he is a capable actor, so shut the fuck up until you see the actual movie.

Regardless, Heath isn't Joker.
Uhhmmm....I'm guessing that he got paid a lot to be in Miami Vice (and Stealth was filmed before Ray, actually). That's reason enough to take the part.
And I agree. We don't know what the film's interpretation of the Joker will be like. Could be that Heath is the perfect fit.

I gotta agree, Heath is a good actor, he's not horrible imo and could do just fine as Joker depending on how they do Joker in the next movie. I could think of worse choices, and while Heath wouldn't be on my top "Actors to play Joker" list, I never would have considerend Bale as Batman back before Begins was made either.
I'm gonna register my vote for the "I have faith in Chris Nolan" side. I have confidence in his ability to coax a spectacular performance out of anyone, as well as his ability to pick the right people for the right roles.

Somebody photoshop a picture of Heath with Joker paint on.
I'd do it, but I don't feel like downloading Gimp.

I think the problem with Heath Ledger is we've never seen him in a role anything like what he'd have to do as the Joker. I know he's a good actor, because I've seen him in good roles in good movies.
But the Joker is one of the most fascinating characters in comic-dom, if not literature as a whole. If Heath Ledger is really taking this part on, it might be the most challenging thing he's done in his whole career.

I think it's a good thing that he hasn't been seen doing this sort of role before; guarantees a fresh performance if nothing else. I think Heath can pull it off as long as he's as committed to the role as Nolan needs him to be.

Joker's a hard character to play because he's completely fucking crazy and bipolar. One minute he'll be cool and collected, the next he'll be super pissed off pointing a gun in your face, and then next he'll pull the trigger with a "BANG!" flag and then make a joke at you.
Then he'll kill you.
I just hope they don't make him look absolutely terrible.

100% white like Nicholson's Joker looks terrible. Just incredibly pale, but semi-natural looking is what they need.
I found this from GIS. Is that Steve Carell? If so, that's really creepy.
Edit: I think it's so hard to look like Joker because of his eyes. They're so full of life yet so devoid of humanity that I don't think a "real person" could do it.

Where's that photoshop of Conrad Veidt that people thought was a poster for the longest while? That was a perfect modern-film Joker.

Yeah. If he thought Heath Ledger's "crazy homicidal clown" impression was better than, say, Adrian Brody's, then that's fine with me.

Nolan had Katie Holmes in the first film.
Enough said.
Yeah, a lot of people took issue with her but it didn't really bother me. I kinda hoped they'd bring her back in the next one just to have someone for the Joker to kill, and perhaps to be involved in some way with the introduction of Harvey Dent. But it doesn't look like that'll happen.
Has Batman: The Musical come up in this discussion, yet? I just discovered it for myself tonight, and I'm genuinely terrified. Jim Steinman, one of Meat Loaf's songwriting partners, is crafting a musical based on the Batman franchise.

Ya know, I was really liking City of Crime for the first few issues, it felt like Detective Comics. Though once the later half rolled on, I started to lose interest in the wave of everything. Still a good read though.
Goddamnit, Adrian Brody even wanted the part. What the fuck is wrong with Hollywood?
Why did everyone want Adrian Brody again? I know he wanted the part, and I know he's got a skinnier frame and weirder face than Ledger but what else makes him more qualified for the part in peoples minds?

I didn't want him. I think a lot of people thought he looked more Jokerish, I've never honestly heard of the guy so I could care less.

I think he looks the part but I don't like him as an actor, I don't think he would have been a very good joker.

The simple fact that he wanted to play the Joker put him at the top of my list. It's not like some actors agent went and said..
"Hey, theres an opening part for the Joker in the new Bat film..want it?"

Everyone, just listen to Trust by Prince. Could you see Ledger workin' that song? Nope.

There are at least a dozen actors, at least, who should be considered and/or given this role before Heath even gets a nod at a walk on as an extra.
Regardless, Heath isn't Joker.

At least not 100% white and Cherry Red, maybe really pale but not Joker White.
And I dont mind, they will work something out that will be awesome.

Anyway, this does seem like a weird casting choice, but let's wait until we actually see something before going crazy.

That's Christopher Eccleston.

Here's the first available song. Truly. Fucking. Terrible.

A SUPERSTITIOUS COWARDLY LOOOOOOOOOT!
That song is capital A awful.
I'd see it.
This is quite bad.
And yet, I'd be first in line for tickets.
