Can you actually provide your own music and make your own ringtones?
For example, on my K750i i've encoded an MP3 of the Speedball 2 music and it is now my ringtone. Can I do the same with the iphone or does it allow only purchased music?
Also, what issues are there with the iphone?

Currently, no. You must buy seperate ringtones from iTunes. The haxors have come up with a very easy work-around, though.
Other than the sealed batery, it seems like a good device. Us Yanks of course are annoyed it's locked to AT&T.

That is mad, so it will be a constant battle between the hacks and Apple just to have your own ringtones? I seriously doubt I could buy the music from Speedball 2 on itunes...
Nuts to that, no Speedball 2 ringtone.. no iphone.

It may be different in the UK, mind, so I wouldn't plan on anything when it's released in the UK. I wouldn't be surprised if the 99¢ charge for converting a song to a ringtone includes some payment to AT&T, so I'd say "wait until the UK release to see what the features are."
A ringtone is something you'll hear every single time somebody rings you, I don't know about you but I prefer it be something that I like rather than the generic crap. Or the horribly unoriginal "i'll use this pop music!".
It's one of the killer features for me.

There is a really simple way to add your own ringtones to the iPhone with the newest version of iTunes.
* Create your ringtone, save it as an AAC file.
* Rename the m4a extension to m4r.
* Double-click to register it in iTunes.
* Go back and re-rename that m4r file back to m4a. That's it.
* Plug in your iPhone and that ringtone will be added to your syncable ringtones list
