On breaking up

So I've been dating a girl for seven months. We have grown very close and, as far as she knows, everything in the relationship is perfect. Thing is, I have met another girl who I feel much more strongly for. After mulling it over for a pretty ridiculously long time I've decided that I need to break up with my girlfriend, because it's obviously not fair to her if I don't have the same feelings that she does. I'm just not sure how to do it. Can't be in person because she lives 3 hours away. Obviously I don't want to be an asshole about it, I know it will hurt her no matter what but I want to do it in the least painful way possible. I think just calling her and saying "I'm sorry, but I don't feel the same way about you anymore, so I think that this relationship needs to end," would be the best way to go. Is that too blunt? Would a letter be better or is that a dick move? I've never actually had to break up with anyone before so I'm kind of at a loss.

You owe her at least a phone call. Just explain that you don't feel the same way and have to move on. don't do it through a letter or E-Mail. That is a mega-dick move.

Since she lives 3hrs away its best she doesn't spend her time driving out to you just to be dumped. Do it over the phone and be prepared for some sobbing. Its the worst part of dumping someone.
