Seriously. Not like, "I can't tell you apart", but I can't tell the difference between the "ethnic" groups of Europeans.
I got into an argument with my girlfriend the other day about this. If you are of European descent, that's as far as I can discern from your looks.. Apparently there is a distinct look between the European nations. I can't see it at all. I mean, if you have red hair and freckles, you are probably from scotland or ireland or something. And if you are blond and blue eyed you are maybe from those northern parts or maybe germany, fuck I don't know. But I've had assholes try to tell me there is a physical difference between Welsh and English. Go to hell. If you are white, that's what you are unless you are 2nd or 3rd generation from there.
I'm sick of people acting offended that I can't discern their genealogy from their mug shot.

For a start, most Europeans have ancestors from different countries. Each country is so small and the borders have changed so often, not to mention that there have been so many wars and nations conquering other nations. I'm as close to being fully English as anyone I know and I still have Scottish and Swiss ancestors (really far off, mind you, but they still exist).
Secondly, hair colour? Eye colour? Never consistent. There's definitely a northern/southern European divide between skin tone and hair colour in general but you can't swear by it.
I have dark brown, almost black eyes and brown hair, and one of my sisters has red hair and blue eyes.
Actually I'm a white american of european descent. However, southern asian people are darker skinned, as most people from the tropics seem to be, whereas northern asian people are paler, as most people from colder climates seem to be. But honestly, china is bigger than europe in surface area.
My point is that I see more variation among those european groups than I do between the groups. People have fucked eachother too much to see any homogeneous groups running around.
Well that explains everything.
