The new forums will be named Coin Return (based on the most recent vote)! You can check on the status and timeline of the transition to the new forums here.
The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Or whatever is left of 2007, I s'pose. This thread will pale in comparison to the majestic metal threads of the past, but oh well, one can only reminisce for so long.
Anyways, a new release slated for a few week from now is the new Wolves In The Throneroom album, "Two Hunters".
The deep woe inside black metal is about the fear that we can never return to the mythic, pastoral world that we crave on a deep subconscious levelâ€
The brand new Wolves In The Throneroom albumis now available directy from Southern Lord. It will be “officially†released in most stores September 25th. You can get it now directly from Southern Lord! Wolves will also be embarking on a long tour of the USA during the month of October!
The new album: “Two Hunters†was recorded on tape, at London Bridge and Aleph Studios by Randall Dunn (Earth, sunn 0)))/Boris, Kinski) in the Pacific Northwest.. The process of the recording was very organic with very minimal use of any digital manipulation or processed effects. Jessica Kinney (previous collaborations with Eyvind Kang and Asva) provides beautifully dark vocals on “Cleansing†and “I Will Lay Down My Bones Among the Rocks and Roots.†Comes packaged in a 5″ mini-gatefold thick cardboard jacket.
Only thing I know of that's coming out in '07 is Gamma Ray's Land of the Free Part II. Don't think there's a set release just "End of 2007". Can't wait.
I'm really liking the new WITTR album right now. Different vibe to it compared to their previous work. I'm also listening to Wormtongue, a one-member black metal project out of Richmond, VA.

With Diadem of 12 Stars being one of my favorite black metal albums, the newest Wolves in the Throne Room left me pretty disappointed. I guess my expectations were too high.

I've been waiting for that for so fucking long it isn't funny. It's horrible.
I've been waiting for another metal thread. The old ones were always an excellent source of finding out about new bands.
I'm looking forward to the new Primal Fear album. Also, my favorite once local band, Skeletonwitch, has a new album coming out in the next weeks that I'm really psyched up for.

I had a hardtime getting into 'Diadem of 12 Stars' but once I got it, man, was it worth it. I like both of their albums, but for different reasons. I find their new album pretty mellow and I like it for that reason. Plus, those clean femal vocals are classy and not cheesy at all which is a big plus.
Apparently, Xasthur's new album leaked, or at least the promo version did. 'Defective Epitaph' it's called apparently, but considering how different the released album was versus the promo copy of 'Subliminal Genocide', I wouldn't be surprised if the final version of the new album is different to a large extent.

It's you!!!!!
Edit to actually contribute:
I never really liked Xasthur. I have this stubborn belief that black metal shouldn't come from California. I don't know why.
I can't really think of anything I'm looking forward to either. The last album I bought was Give Me Your Soul...Please.
I did just throw my Sacred Steel CDs back into rotation. Awesomely cheesy power metal.
On a more serious note, I don't really pay attention to what bands have something new coming out, I just check new releases as they come. The things I'm really looking forward to this year that I know are coming are the new Impaled, Crypticus and as Futt mentioned already the mighty ARGHOSLENT'S new album might finally see the light of day sometime in the near future.
None of you can even talk about listening to metal if you havent heard any of these cds.
Whitechapel- The Somatic Defilement
All Shall Perish- Price of Existence
So go now and LISTEN!
Snip
Yeah, no thanks, I'll pass.
Not saying anything about the music but I mean these aren't much better:
The first one is a live picture someone chose to caption and the other two are distinct. My point was those two bands look exactly the fucking same, just like every other generic, trendy, shitty, brootaldeathmetalcorewhatever the fuck that no one with ears cares about.
The new Arghoslent sucks (this according to Chimerstry, I haven't heard it)
You mean the one that was not the new Arghoslent album? niceeeeee. Assholes like to 'leak' anticipated albums like that and upload something completely unrelated.
Well I have increased my small stash of cds by two recently;
Kind Diamond: Abigail (was looking for Puppet Master but was unable to find a copy in the whole city)
Demons and Wizards: Touched by the Crimson King (I absolutely love Blind Guardian and was hoping to get A Twist in the Myth but would have bought this anyway)
Now where to go from here to tide me over till Dethalbum comes out, I searched high and low for Bathory to no avail and want to flesh out my black metal collection (of currently 0...). Not a fan of Mayhem but I do like Immortal, really I favor a focus less on satan and more on paganism. Anyone have any suggestions as far as good, viking/pagan-ish black metal bands in the vein of Bathory/Quorthon?

Granted on the first one but seriously some dude in corpse paint with a noose in the background and some guys in the woods around a fire are distinct? Don't get me wrong I don't think Whitechapel and All Shall Perish are anything but generic and trendy but it's not really fair to call them on their appearance when so many black metal bands are just people with corpse paint and spikey clothing.
I'm listening to Amorphis' Silent Waters right now. I've given it quite a few listens, and it is a great throwback to Elegy, but still has all the things I liked about Eclipse. Highly recommended.
Edit: I am glad this thread is back, but I'm kind of disappointed that it wasn't Dreamer.

Sir, step away from the Dethklok and check out Enslaved, Windir, Moonsorrow and Graveland.

Amorphis was the first band that got me into metal and I still stand by my opinion that they are still the very fucking best.

There isn't an Amorphis song that i don't like. They are a standby in my collection when I need something that I know I'm going to want to hear.
And yes, Enslaved and Windir are two of my other favorites. Anyone who hasn't needs to give them a listen right away.

Alright, alright, yes black metal bands enjoy their silly corpse paint and I don't even like Xasthur, but, I don't think you're going to find the exact same shot for another band. Whereas, if I really wanted to, I could probably go pick up another five pictures of different bands standing in a line staring at the camera with their hands in their pockets.
edit:
anyway, it's silly to continue the discussion if you don't even enjoy the bands. I didn't base it just on their looks, I've listened to songs and they sound just like they look, generic. It was just a stab.
Taco Bell does win the franchise war according to the tome of knowledge that is Demolition Man. However, I've watched Demolition Man more then a few times and never once did I see WoW. In conclusion Taco Bell has more lasting power then WoW.
I've been really into the new High on Fire and Dimension Zero albums, but I've been way out of the loop on new releases since Chimers left us. Anyone got suggestions for new death, thrash, or sludgy doom albums?

Viides Luku - Hävitetty by Moonsorrow is really great. It came out this year, and it just has two songs for two dollars on itunes. Each are 26 minutes + and they are just epic. The movements and the complexity of the songs just enthrall me so much.
I'm listening to Hangman's Hymn. Since Dreamer left I haven't been getting a lot of new releases, just trying to give the "old" ones their much-deserved listening time.

3750 is a great album. I'm not quite as big on The Dead Walk although I still like it a lot.
Edit: Is this a good place to talk about the new Between the Buried and Me album? It's really fantastic.

I need the new DVD too. I'll be in it somewhere!

Aside: So much win for the King Diamond avatar.
I've been very much out of the metal loop but the people that know me know I like my melo-death like Kalmah, Detonation, and Slowmotion Apocalypse.
I've been nuts over Moonlight Comedy, any suggestions towards this type of prog-metal in vein of MC?
