Super Mario level that plays itself?

I'm not keen on the whole Mario thing, but is this a hack, or really a clever level in the game itself?

The video is here

    Ahahaha that's clever.

    That's a hack.

    Pretty cute.

I thought this would be a clip from AIR though.

    It's real.

Someone hacked Super Mario World and made that level, they managed to make Mario slip around like that by making the level "ice" without actually using the ice tileset.

Just cause it's a mod of the game doesn't mean it's not real. It's a pretty cool thing.

Those Japanese hackers are pretty crazy.

That must have taken a lot of work to get it set up just right.

I noticed at one point a turtle shell seemed to slow down. I don't remember if that happens in SMW or what, but that's the only thing that stood out as possible "cheating."

Well I saw the first one and I was just amazed by the pure creativity and amount of work that had to go into that. I mean just the shear amount of time and energy going into all of the placement and the complete understanding of the physics ... I would consider it almost an art form.

Then I saw that there were eight of them and I proceeded to soil my underpants.

Christ I wish I could see the formulas they used to calculate the physics.

This is why Mario games are such quality platformers. You can't do this in shit like Donkey Kong or Sonic really.

Well, hacking Super Mario World is hardly new or amazing these days. With a special and very user-friendly program called "Lunar Magic", anyone can pretty much make their own SMW hack. I've find more than enough on this website. Of course, it still takes plenty of time and effort to design anything worth playing. Still, I'd recommend any Mario fans with enough free time on their hands to check out those top 5, and maybe this one. ^_^

But anyway, even with plenty of experience in SMW hacking, these DDAs are extremely impressive... and I haven't actually seen one before. I expecially liked the first one shown in this thread. It utilized some extremely clever Koopa shell combos.

Donkey Kong Country, maybe not, but old Sonic games have way more physics than old Mario games.

This doesn't have to do with physics as much as how many ways there are for Mario to interact with the environment, obstacles and enemies.
