Phantasy star online..... [game on?]

I've got the game, and the trial online, but does anyone still play it? I haven't opened the game yet so it can still be returned if it's not worth my time. I liked the one on dreamcast, and even gamecube, but I just want to make sure I'm not wasting my time if no one plays it, or if it's not as fun as I remember.
You mean blue burst? I honestly couldn't tell you how many people play anymore, but there weren't even that many people on when I played it, when it first came around.
I absolutely love PSO, its one of my favorite games of all time. If there was a good way to play for cheap(screw monthly cost for PSO, I'm old school DC PSO), I would be so up for it you don't even know.
Check the MMO forum instead. There's a bigger playerbase on the 360 then there is on the PS2/PC but the official PA guild is on the PS2/PC. Personally, the game kind of burned out quick for me; Monster Hunter is a much better game then PSU.

no. NO. We aren't talking about the bastard offspring of Phantasy star online(PSO), that's Phantasy Star Universe(PSU).
Sorry, thats like confusing warcraft and starcraft in my eyes.
You might want to do a Google search using words "pso free server", and maybe you'd want to click on the first link that comes up.

See, now I'm more confused, so I guess I'll just ask, since y'all seem to know...
1) Can you still play PSO on dreamcast, for free? (one of the posters hinted that was still going on)
2) I'm referring to the one that came out around the time of the 360 launch, not the card game. Is that one still played regularly? Also, I take it that the 360 crowd can't play with the PS2/PC crowd? If that's the case, I might just look into FF11 instead. I'm not a big fan of WoW, but I'm looking at getting into another MMORPG while I've got the time. Is FF11 online with PS2 and PC?

No no. PSU, the 360 game, is like Phantasy Star Online, but with MMO aspirations, in that it charges a monthly fee but it isn't an MMO at all! There is content locked on the disc they unlock every now and then to take the place of regular updates. It's lamefest 3000 if you ask me.
FFXI... well... it's a gauntlet. If you like to work really, really fucking hard to achieve something pretty meaningless, go for it. I tried it, and it almost turned me off MMO's for good.

Thanks for the advice man, you saved me a waste of money big time. I don't know what I'm going to do now.... So far I get online for an hour or two a night (I stay up late) and play Gears, XBLA, and some babo violent on PC. I have the button mashing action genre covered, I just kind of wanted a good rpg experience. I'd be down for getting the PSP to play monster hunter freedom 2, but I want to know if you can really play it online with that xkai thing without lag. I was a huge fan of MH on PS2, but no one plays it anymore.
I guess there's always pokemon online with the DS, but I dunno... (basically, I've got about $200 to $300 with best buy gift cards to drop on a game or portable system, and I'm torn between doing that or just getting a wacom tablet or some computer parts.

PSU is really bad but PSO was, at its time, completely amazing.
I know what Phantasy Star Universe is. He didn't specify so I assumed he meant the latest.
Blue Burst does but it's pretty barren. I heard PSO1 and 2 are both shut down.
