George Harrison - Nintendo's U.S. marketing chief leaves
Nintendo Co Ltd's U.S.-based marketing chief said on Thursday he is leaving the company, confirming months of speculation the video game giant will lose one of its most seasoned veterans.
In June, rumors flew that George Harrison and other top executives would leave Nintendo of America following a decision by the company to move its sales and marketing staff from Redmond, Washington to San Francisco and New York.
"I have confirmed to all employees that I will be leaving at the end of December and not making the move to California," Harrison told Reuters by telephone.
Harrison has been with Nintendo since 1992 and his decision comes as the Japanese company is riding high on the success of its Wii video game console and DS handheld device, which compete with products from Microsoft Corp and Sony Corp.
Harrison did not say what he will do after he leaves Nintendo.
Not a huge deal, just a heads up really. We already knew corporate affairs VP Perrin Kaplan and PR senior director Beth Llewelyn were leaving.
Upshot - Nintendo hires some replacement staff, the games remain effectively unchanged, and ex-nintendo staff get one hell of a CV "I was marketing cheif for Nintendo for the launch of the Wii" would go a long way to getting you a job in pretty much any related industry position you want.
Yeah he could pretty much get any job he wants now, for any money.
'I sold the Wii' says it all really.

Meh. He won't be missed. Nintendo's software marketing has been piss poor. Where's the MP3 hype, eh? All you see anywhere is Halo 3 and Bioshock. Maybe his replacement will do a better job.
He's been with Nintendo for 15 years... kinda harsh that he's basically been forced to choose between a company that he's obviously enjoyed working for and being able to stay where he's lived for (assumedly) the past 15 years plus.
I've seen more marketing for the Wii than for any other video game or console. Maybe it's just the channels and time I watch, but I like watching the "Wii would like to play" commercials.

"Hey guys, ever hear of the Wii? How about the DS? I sold that shit. Give me billions of dollars"
adjusted for inflation?
