I recently (ie today) got a couple hundred bucks for my birthday. I promptly bought a wii, which is installed on a shitty old tv I have -- like, a 13" screen. Not very pretty. I've got about 200 bucks left over, and am interesting in upgrading my tv. High Definition, I would imagine, is out of the picture at this price range. That's ok, I can get one after I graduate and get a job.
So basically, this is a help thread. I'd rather not just walk into a Best Buy and hunt for a TV there; I'd rather have a bigger knowledge base before I go in. Does anyone have ideas on decent/good TVs for sub-$200 bucks? Recommendations?
I'd recommend saving up for around a 27" HDTV, but seeing as you're using a Wii, that would be wasteful, overall.
It would also be wasteful to spend anything over $200 on a SDTV at this point in time. It would serve you well, but your focus should be something that will basically be larger than the TV you have, and not break your bank.
I think your best bet is getting a used SDTV, something 27 inches or more should serve you just fine. Lots of people have upgraded to HDTVs and need to pawn off perfectly good SDTVs. Grab something cheap, serviceable, and start saving cash for an HDTV down the road.
I had this TV (20" SD tube) before I upgraded to HD. Worked pretty well while I had it, and it has component input, so my 360 had slightly sharper and more vibrant graphics (it was a noticeable increase over composite, and I could actually read the infamous Dead Rising text). The biggest problem I had with it was that about a year after I had it, the tube had some weird issues displaying any green coloration at all, but usually, the issue is only temporary right after you turn it on, and hasn't gotten worse since I noticed it in this past March. The 3-year replacement plan is only like $30, and that stays within your price range, just in case something goes wrong.
Anyone notice how some things (mattresses and the copy machines in Highrise) are totally impenetrable? A steel wall, yeah that makes sense, but bullets should obliterate copy machines.
I don't know about you, but I always buy a bullet proof printer. Its a lot more expensive, but I think the advantages are apparent.
