XNA information

Hi, quick question(s):

Can I somehow connect XNA with Visual Studio 2005?
If yes, how?
If no, is it even necessary or is XNA standalone?

What else do I have to download to mimic it's functionality?

    For whatever reason they make you download the C# Express program.

    I do not know why, it does not make sense.

    I would assume that down the road they will make a plugin for VS 2005, but as far as I know there isn't one right now.

    Maybe they are waiting for VS 2008.

    The current (1.0) release of XNA only works with Visual C# Express 2005, which can coexist with the full version of Visual Studio. The next version, which I think is coming out this year, is supposed to work with any VS version.

    I think that you can get XNA working with VS2005, but it's unsupported and requires a little bit of commandline work. It's probably best to ask on the official forums, I was takiing a look the other day and saw something mentioned. http://forums.xna.com/

    Guys sorry for necroposting but this is a super quick XNA question, I've heard XNA requires a harddrive in order for you to port games over from your computer to the 360. Is the 20GB harddrive that comes with the Premium enough? Or will I have to shell out more money for one of those upgraded ones? Also I hear you need a special dev license that is 100 dollars?

    It looks like you do need a special "license" to share the game to your 360, but I'm not aware of the cost.

    This MSDN page has a little more info on how to share to different places.

    I think you need to pay $100 a year if you want the game to get to your 360, but you can play it on the PC with a 360 controller for free so that's probably a better choice.

    There is the Creator's club, which costs 99 dollars a year subscription

    Here is some info on it.

    A: Visual C# Express, the XNA Game Studio Express tools and runtime environment for Windows are all FREE. To develop, debug and/or play games on the Xbox 360, however, you must have an XNA Creators Club subscription purchased directly from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Two subscription options are available: $99 per year or $49 per four months.

    20 gigs should be more than enough to develop with. And since you only need a silver account to access Xbox Live market place, an elite should be enough. I think if you wanted to store a lot of developed games on the system, you might need more space. But for the most part, 20 gigs should be adaquat.

    I believe you can play other people's games as well. I dunno too much about the details about that though.

    This is of course just making games on your 360..if you wanted to sell it and what not, that's a whole other story.

    Premium is fine.

    Membership to the Creators Club is required to actually run your XNA games on the console.

    Find a university with a gaming development class and contact the professor of the class. My prof got the beta 1.0 before it was released because we wanted to port our game to the 360. Not sure if that would be an option for you, but he had no problems giving it to us to use as we saw fit.
