Help finding an obscure game... and other such discussion

Hi there!

I've been playing a lot of semi-obscure games on the PS2 lately, and remember one I heard about a few months ago, possibly on here. However I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called. It used a first person perspective from inside a helmet, it was a survival horror game and I think it may have been set on another planet or something. I recall is being obscure and probably a budget title. If anyone can help me track it down, and tell me more about it, that would be great!

Also, what other obscure games for the PS2 are worth investing in? Which are your faves?

It was released in the US, but I can't find reviews anywhere. A mom and pop rental place here has it for sale for like $10, but I've always been weary.

EDIT: Didn't look too hard, gamerankings.com is filled with them. 61% average.

I'm quite suprised to find it was released here too. Am having a read through a review on IGN. Got 6.0, but I often still quite enjoy games that others have called mediocre. Its just nice to find cheapish games that you may not have really heard much about, that are quite good. Can be a nice suprise and a fresh experience, considering theres no hype and spoilers everywhere.

Have been looking at some other survival horror games on the PS2 that are a bit rare, and one that popped up is Rule Of Rose. It was banned here in the UK, but you can still purchase it by way of auction sites (though it seems a tad expensive). I've read reviews that say while it is involving and has a good story, the actual gameplay and combat are rubbish and really detract from the game. Has anyone here played it? Is it worth a go? More importantly, is it worth 30 quid?

30 is pushing it, but if you're really interested in the story, give it a try.

The gameplay is not the most fun kind in the world, but the atmosphere/music/story is pushing me on through it, (very) slowly but surely.

And I really don't see why it was banned. It's disturbing, but there's nothing offensive that I've seen so far.

I'd seriously consider giving it a go if it wasn't £30.... I'll hafta keep looking around and see if its cheaper elsewhere.

Any other suggestions for obscure/rare PS2 games in the survival horror genre, or any other genre for that matter?

Wikipedia says the publisher decided not to publish in the UK, not that it was banned.

The complaints seem to center around the sexualization of the underage characters.

Thats quite odd, cos there are copies of it going on ebay with a UK box, unless its from elsewhere in Europe I guess.

    Obscure.

Oh how very witty of you! I have played that one, was quite good. Wonder if Obscure 2 will be as good?
I enjoyed the co-operative aspect of that game, as its not something you really see in survival horror games. I guess co-op mode in Silent Hill would take away from the atmosphere though...

Has anyone else here actually played Rule Of Rose then? It can't be as bad as reviews make out.
Also, what are Haunting Ground and Clock Tower 3 like? And has anyone played Echo Night... is it cool?

Umm, a strategy game, saw it on a store. I think it was Europe something III...looked interesting, but I simply can't remember the name for some reason. Grey cover with knight or something pictured if it is any help.

It would be awesome if there wasn't any combat in it.

    Obscure PS2 gems:

There are versions of several Dreamcast classics worth checking out, including Rez, Ecco the Dolphin and Shenmue.

Also, some of the B-list Square and Sqeenix games are worth how little they cost now, including Musashi, Star Ocean, Xenosaga or even Unlimited Saga, if you can find it (it's kinda weird, so be warned).

You've heard of White Knight and Jeanne D'Arc, but have you played Dark Cloud 1 and 2?

You've played Guitar Hero 1 and 2, but have you played Frequency and Amplitude?
