The situation: my brother has inherited my desktop and put it in his room. It's too far to run a cable from the router so I picked up a belkin wireless usb adapter.
Started off no problem. Installed the drivers, plugged it in, internets. However after using it for 5-10 minutes it'll cut off and I'll get a "limited or no connectivity" message. This will happen to all the other computers in the house as well. When I reset the modem everything is peachy-keen.
The weird thing (to me at least) is the problem only occurs when using this desktop to surf the net. The adapter is set to automatically connect and will sit fine and idle all day, but as soon as you open up a browser on that computer it goes bad shortly.
If it helps, here's the layout: Motorola cable modem, runs to Netgear router. One desktop connected by ethernet to router, a laptop and a Wii connected wirelessly, and lastly the offending desktop wirelessly. There's a WEP password but I don't think that's the problem. Everybody's running XP and SP2. As for the signal to the troubled desktop it isn't weak - it's getting 4 of 5 bars.
