RATHER: running games on integrated graphics (945G)

I havent really spent any time with Vista yet, and my landlord is asking for help getting some older games working on it. I'd like to know what are the basic things I should be looking to try. I'm ASSUMING they're mostly XP games, but I'll find out soon enough.

Update DirectX? Patch the games a certain way? Run in some compatibility mode? Some emulator?

Most of the oldish games I have, I've just err.. installed and played. The only thing I couldn't get to work was MGS2, and it was a bit of a pain to get working on XP anyways.

Most will run fine normally. If not try XP compatibility mode. If that fails then it probably didn't run on XP to begin with.

    HMMMM

maybe the dude's issue is that he has 945G integrated graphics.

would that explain why SimCity 4 works fine, but Vampire: Bloodlines, and Dungeon Lords do not?

I've never really dealt with trying to get decent looking games running on integrated graphics. How do you know if it's compatible or not?

The main issue your gonna have with intel integrated cards is that I think a large majority of them lack pixel shaders and hardware T&L. That is probably the issue he is having with them.

Why does my two year old ATi Xpress 200m, an integrated card considered complete crap (even in comparison with other integrated cards) have both of those?

Might be the T&L, though. http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-011910.htm

If he has a 945G, you are totally fucked. I have one of those and it can't run shit, and the shit it can run it makes look like shit.

945G is a weakass chip. If it ran V:TM - B I'd be surprised, although I'm also slightly suprised it can handle Sim City 4.

I have 2 gigs of ram and can run Half-Life 2 full settings no problem, but as soon as I turn on my flashlight it goes to approximately 3 frames per second. No exaggeration.
