My HDD iPod is ill-suited for workouts involving running and/or wet weather (and my harddrive is starting to crap out anyway), so I'm in the market for a good flash-based MP3 player and I'm hoping someone has some recommendations.
I'd really like to have a player that can be expanded through SD memory, and uses the player to mess with the library instead of doing it through the PC while transfering the files (so that I can easily find tracks while running if I like). It also has to be, if not waterproof, highly water resistent since I'm from Seattle and if I didn't run in the rain I wouldn't run eight months out of the year.
I've heard some really good things about the Rio Forge, and I think it meets all my criteria (I think it's water resistant but I could use some confirmation there). Does anyone have any other recommendations, or players they use for workouts?
Can someone at least let me know if they've used the Rio players, either the Cali or the Forge? I've read a LOT of people complaining about problems...countered by almost as many people saying they're just morons and can't complete a firmware update. Any input would appreciated.
I have only one piece of advice to give you: If you buy a Sony player, buy a NEW Sony player. The new ones are drag and drop and don't have the DRM infested SonicStage. You won't believe what I lost because of that hellspawn. The new Sony players are DRM free and are actually pretty sweet.
Of course, maybe none of this applies to you...just giving you a heads up.
Seriously. I got a HDD based player from then, two actually, one amny years ago when a 10GB MP3 player was bigger than your hand and more recently a smaller 2GB version. The 2GB version failed, it constantly froze when accessing and the replacement did the exact same thing. The older version did too though nowhere near as bad. Plus it was pretty crappy for the price too, monochrome screen et al.
If there Flash players are anything like these (Though without the HDD accessing faults) then they can't be MUCH better.
On the other hand I have Samsung YP something or other that I got as a replacement for the RIo failing HDD shit-X model. It has a beautiful high colour screen, good charge time and it is kick ass in every respect necessary to me. And it was cheap at the time too. Its only 2GB but nowadays you can probably get 4 or more for the same price I paid or less.
