For those of you who watched the Doctor Strange DVD movie, you may have noticed a trailer for Marvel's next big animated direct to DVD project. The trailer is located here:

Essentially, it's Li'l Avengers, the kids of the original Avengers, all drawn Disney style. We've got little Hawkeye, little Captain America, little Black Panther (yo), and so on. There's even Thor Girl and Wasp Boy. In the words of the video, it's "Growing the brand and bringing in new fans into the Marvel Universe, only it's all new, different characters, who are kids. Oh, and all the original Avengers are dead. And it's 20 years later."
One guy literally says "We're gonna re-invent the characters again, as they have been a hundred times before, without losing what we expect to see" while showing pictures of a withered, 80-year old Tony Stark.
Yeah.
All in all, it's pretty horrible looking.

Still, I want my obscure Marvel toons. I'd love to see Runawaus, New Warriors, League of Losers, Moon Knight, and all kinds of other dudes get a movie that normally wouldn't be considered for a bigger budget, live action film.
Here's a question though. Are these movies actually turning a profit? Looking at IMDB they didn't have any kind of financial information available, so I'm curious whether or not these are doing well enough to keep being made. I'd assume so since they're still pumping them out pretty regularly.

But yeah, this going to suck.
Too be fair, the Young Avengers have complicated or unclear origins and for something clearly targetted at a young audience I'm fairly confident Marvel wants to avoid the drama of either having a gay couple or getting a bunch of shit for omitting that part of the characters.

I have a rare psychological disorder which causes me to believe anything someone wearing a cowboy hat tells me.
I mean, there's precedent for this in Teen Titans, but I consider that to suck as well.
if you guys dont like it, dont buy it. its a show aimed for kids. its like calling sesame street shitty because it doesnt have the action that 24 has.
this might be something fun to get my little cousins to start reading comics. we watched ultimate avengers together (censored iron-man's womanizing of black widow at the bar), and they liked it. i know my littlest cousin was asking me about the origin of captain america and why the hulk changes to a human.
realize that kids these days dont even know what the fuck a popeye is.

And much better in that way than this thing. But the concept of a child or young teen squad of heroes bothers me anyways, and seems unnecessary.
Although, I'm no marketing whiz, maybe a lot of kids actually do prefer their heroes to be going through puberty.
But why can't it appeal both to kids and to older fans, like that new Spider-Man cartoon that's coming out? That looks cool because it's Spider-Man and all his foes, but he's like 15 years old, so yay, he's a kid too. I'd rather have the teenage Avengers being trained by Captain America or something rather than brand new characters trained by old Tony. Also, I'd rather have fucking Ultimate Galactus or the Kree-Skrull war than teenage Avengers in any form.
Maybe it'll turn out to be awesome after all, but I remain un-gripped thus far.

we just cant have our cake and eat it too. too many shows have tried to walk the line of adult and younger viewer content amalgam and have fallen off. shows that have gotten it right in the past is justice league, animaniacs, Avatar, Pinky and the Brain etc.
but other shows that tried to walk that line either fail/get cancelled/ or changed. the x-men cartoon had to cut back on the violence hence increased shitty ness in later episodes.
batman beyond got the axe for being too violent for youth audiences. if the show were like spielberg's cartoon roswell, (a cartoon drama aimed for adults) it would probably keep going.
tom and jerry got away with INSANE amount of cartoon violence for a long while but got retooled by another company (with worse art) and got toned down
marvel's new studio allows them to take risks for new genre's but trying to balance the adult+younger theme takes a bit of doing. kudos to them for taking a safe route for an already unpopular idea.
for now, lets not bitch. its been done before and is tiring. just sit back, relax and enjoy your passtime/hobby/guilty pleasure. if you dont like it,while others do, you just dont like it and that sucks. but at least theyre still keeping comic heroes alive.
but if some people wanna keep bitching about new ideas, feel free to sit back in your cheetoh stained chair and laugh and me through your computer about how you were right and i was wrong.
It takes a careful writer to balance it enough that both kids and adults like it. Not everyone can pull it off, or even want to pull it off all the time. It effects whatever story you're trying to tell.
