I have been noticing a string of instances where I will pay for a meal at a restaurant with my debit card, and they will not charge the tip I write in on the receipt?
I am wondering, is there some different system for processing tips paid with credit cards?
I feel like a scumbag because I've got months of meals purchased that apparently were never tipped on. I mean, I always write in a tip but it doesn't look like any of the dozen restaurants I am eating at ever seem to add on that amount...
What's the deal? Am I supposed to just tip in cash? I don't even carry cash.
Most of the time I tell the waitress that I don't have cash and just going to put it on the card for her (so that she doesn't think I'm just running out without tipping).
That's at restaurants... I don't do coffee shops.
Is it the same place or different places that do this to you? I've never had it happen.

I do that also.
I right the tip and then total it out.

Yes, now that I look back on it that's exactly what's happening. I just didn't know they could do that.
OK cool.
