Couple friends and I started doing a Samurai movie night. We do dinner and throw on a couple films. So far we've covered Seven Samurai, Takeshi's Zatoichi, Ran, The Hidden Blade and Twilight Samurai. We've all already seen The Last Samurai, so we haven't put it on yet.

Anyways, I'm looking for opinions on some good Samurai movies to show for movie night.

From everything I hear, "Throne of Blood" is amazing. I haven't actually seen it yet, but I plan on watching it soon. Essentially, it's Macbeth based in feudal Japan, directed by Kurosawa.

Lone Wolf and Cub:Sword of Vengeance is the 1st in a 5 or 6 part series. There's also an edited down version of the series just called Shogun Assassin.

    I liked 'em.

The classic Zatoichi films starring Shintaro Katsu are phenomenal. If you haven't seen any, I recommend starting with Zatoichi & The Chess Expert, my favorite in the series.

Throne of Blood is good. Others I highly recommend include Yojimbo and Kill! (the latter directed by Kihachi Okamoto)

I'd love to set something like this up myself.
