120 a year will allow a very, very comfortable lifestyle.

You won't be in a mansion. You won't be driving 3 $80k+ cars.

    You'll be secure and comfortable.

if i had a full-time schedule at my current job instead of going to school and working like eleven hours a week, i'd have enough money to room with someone in a decent hippy-ish neighborhood in new york pretty comfortably

    but i don't

    :(

I just want enough money where if I look in a store and see something I want that isn't, I dunno, a gold plated hdtv with hydraulics, I can pick it up without looking over my shoulder for soulless revenants

My goal is to make $300K per year by the time I'm 30. At that level, I can live off off $150K and invest the other $150K and retire by 45 and live in a tropical paradise until the day I die, which will be VERY old, because you don't age fast when you spend all day long working out, reading books and having sex.

Of course, I make significantly less than $300K per year and I'm 24, and my wife is a big spender.

I guess I should work harder, instead of chatting with you assholes...

So, back in 2003 I bought 100 shares of Apple stock (APPL) at $30 a share. It has since split 2-1, and it's current value is $141/share.

    Do I win?

If you lived in Harlem, odds are you wouldn't be here

    Manhattan, you'd be far wealthier.

Queens, you would have stabbed teefs by now and stole his scarf.

    Jersey, you would be illiterate.

Midtown, you'd be far more of a trendy cockgoblin

bahahaha i love the exclusion of staten island

    they aren't important

harlem and bronx both have nice areas, though i wouldn't say i want to live there.

queens is fucking desolate and i would only live in the neighborhoods directly across the river and close to the city, like astoria or long island city.

ideally i want to live in williamsburg, which is pretty trendy but lots of cool places and its one stop away from manhattan and it's cheaper than SOHO

    hmph

I bought as much as I could afford. If I had the $300,000 to invest for 10,000 shares, then sure, I woulda bought it, and now I'd have 20,000 shares, and it'd be worth $2,820,000. ...jeez, that's a lot of money. you're right, I shoulda bought that much. Taxes on that would be about $425,000 though, still leaving me with well over 2 million. FUCK!! WHY DIDN'T I BUY 10,000 SHARES!?!?!

    indeed

    rather

it's a NICE place, with relatively cheap good houses

    but

    a) the fucking staten island expressway is always stuck whenever you want to get anywhere. driving back from jersey? haha, fuck you, get in traffic.

    b) if you're not driving to commute, and chances are if you go to school or work in manhattan like i do, you are NOT, you gotta take a bus to get to the only train line and then a ferry and then you just wanna jump on the tracks and get it over with. a friend of mine goes to school in staten island and she lives in brooklyn. it sucks.

    c) and since it's so hard to get to manhattan, there is nothing to do in staten island. I hung out with SI kids several times. they drive out to the nearest starbucks or 7-11, shoot the shit for an hour and then decide that they want to go to either get food or a hookah bar BECAUSE THERE ISN"T ANYTHING ELSE.

    so

    i'd never live there

    fuck that noise

and over the next 24-48 one of two things will happen

it will crest and then stabalize

    or it will sharply decline

either way, the smart thing to do was to secure the intial 100% gain and get out. Which you did. Good job.

Trust me, stale, I know I made the correct decision.

It's just one of those things, you know? In the back of your head, your fantasy brain goes "But what if it goes up $200 and splits seventeen ways and you miss out on millions of dollars!" It's just human.

Fortunately, the front of my brain is much smarter than the back of my brain, and I always listen to the front of my brain when making key decisions.

Plus, the 4500ish shares I have left are still accruing value. So I'm pleased.

This is not "hardship" you are experiencing.
    (I know this)

but, going from having whatever you want to not having it is kinda shitty!

    No, teefs.

Going from getting whatever shapes of Kraft Macaroni you want to eating rice and soy sauce for dinner is kinda shitty.

Having to fire your $80 an hour maid and clean up your own messes is not kinda shitty.
