.docx convertors/readers?

My teacher (for some reason) decided to save the homework file into .docx format. This is only readable (AFAIK) by Word 10 or whatever the new one is.

How can I read this in older Words? Is there a convertor?

Did you try opening in Wordpad or Notepad?

Yeah, it's just a bunch of garbage. I think I found a solution though (from MS no less).

The reason it doesn't read right is because DocX is a mixture of XML and.. stuff.

I think you can download the 2003 Word Reader, and get the "Compatibility Pack" for 2007 docs. So sez Microsoft anyway.

Yep, iTunes has got it. This is a Word 2007 document. Just install the Compatibility pack and you should be good. The pack works with Office XP and Office 2003.

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

The computability pack should work. I have also had some luck using open office to convert documents to different formats.
