The worlds most expensive World of Warcraft account was sold yesterday at a whopping 7,000 Euro (Approximately 9,700 USD).
The account being so expensive was due to what it contained: A Night Elf rogue wielding the legendary swords that drop of Illidan Stormrage in The Black Temple - Which only one other in the entire world possess. But it doesn't end there, the character also had 4 of the 5 tier 6 pieces of armor and various drops from The Black Temple making him one of the best geared rogues out there.
For those of you interested in looking him up, the characters name is: Shaks, and she's on the European Realm Kazzak.
you actually can't look it up, because evidently Blizzard already banned the buyer.
So, $10k in the hole... ouch.
also, hahahahah, stupid.
I'm assuming the buyer was wealthy enough that throwing away $10,000 like that meant absolutely nothing to them. Even if the account wasn't banned. That gear isn't going to last forever, or even for relatively long in comparison to other things you could buy with $10k. I'm betting it was just the whim of some extremely rich dude who realised how fleeting the satisfaction would be and didn't care either way.
WoW attracts all sorts, wouldn't be surprised if more info was released later.
In all honesty though, how could the person buying it not expect to get caught almost instantly, I mean so few people have that gear that it wasn't exactly a hard search.

You'd think the selling would be a little less high profile. If you're gonna do this you shouldn't make it blatantly public and obvious. The fact that it was announced and put on news-sites shows they clearly fucked it up.

The seller had no reason to keep it quiet after he got the money. He's probably laughing his ass off. Apparently (according to random people on the WoW forums, lolol reputable sources), his guild was aware of it, and he's currently levelling up another rogue with the intention of continuing raiding.
edit: Also, how many people have the warblade set? One of them suddenly transferring server is bound to attract a lot of attention. It would get out sooner or later anyway.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that only one other person has the set.
And he didn't even have a chance to switch servers and rename him "Illadank".

If he is a rich guy, its probably as much of a whim, and as big a money loss, as you buying a 5c gumball and then deciding you didn't want it and throwing it away.
Multimillionaires don't generally spend much time playing MMOs though. I'd still wager better odds on it just being a completely moronic addict/addicted moron.
This kind of thing makes me wonder how much my account would go for.
I'm not actually interested in selling, just curious as to the value.
Every class at 70 except a shaman, who is 26, and the rogue is in full T4, S2 MH/OH, and every crafting profession in the game across those characters at 360 or higher, plus 2 epic mounts (rogue and druid flight form) and 2k gold on hand.
I'm sure it'd go higher if I got the shaman to 70 too. Most of the alt's gear is blues, a few greens, and some crafted epics.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

I have one in my guild (srsly). He's bought characters, but he'd never go this far.
I'm afraid I'd be ripping you and your marvelous cookie off. I can't have that kind of bad karma weighing me down, nor do I feel that I could continue negotiations with you in good faith, knowing the raw power of your generous nature.
Go forth, good sir, and spread the cookie love! Leave a poor addict in peace... and daily quests.

That's some damn fine irony though.
Or someone really, really stupid.
You have two huge-ass warglaives that sheath on your back.

Heh, its in the OP
See, I wasn't sure if he was just so rich he just didn't care, or stupid. But now I'm really leaning towards the latter.

I did "Find an Upgrade" on the Warglaive just to see if the world would explode.
But instead it recommended the legendary sword from the Kael fight.
Funny enough though; the dagger from the kael fight ranks below the warglaive.

Speaking generally though, I agree with you.

It's like playing Russian Roulette! But instead of a gun, you have a cookie of indeterminate type and age.
And it's more deadly.
