I was just cutting up some pepperoni and managed to nearly slice off a decent-sized chunk of skin off the end off my index finger right next to my nail. It's not particularly deep and wasn't bleeding very heavily so nothing that requires dramatic medical attention or anything but I just wanted to know what the best course of action would be to ensure swift healing and no infection.
There was very little blood flow when it first happened - I think it was mostly just dead skin and it's still hanging on by a sliver, I didn't wash it straight away because I didn't want to accelerate bleeding, so I've just put a couple of band-aids on for now and was wondering what I should do from here.
Not in quite a long time. I kinda figured that was the procedure and have now done all that except the disinfectant bit (don't have any) but I just figured there might be something special I was forgetting/didn't know.

Get your mother to kiss it better.
Letting it heal without a bandaid is better if you can pull it off without getting gunk in it (ie it is dry) if not wrap the sucker up.
I used to be the guy who was like "whatever, it's just a cut, tape it up, bandage it" until I got a massive gash in my forearm while working in my grandma's garden. She put some gunk (later I found out polysporin) on it and a a 9 inch 2mm deep gash healed almost completely in 4 days.
Mild soap and warm water is excellent for cleaning. Polysporin does seem to speed the healing process IMHO.

don't buy polysporin.
the best thing you can throw on a cut for washing purposes is PH neutral to your body water. the 2nd best thing you can throw on a cut is water that is safe to drink.

I know what you meant but this still made me chuckle.
